MURFREESBORO, TN – Construction of the new Beasie Road Bridge that will span the width of the Stones River and connect to River Rock Boulevard is now underway. Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland told WGNS NEWS…The Mayor said the goal is to have different routes to get motorist around the city, hopefully alleviating traffic woes.
The City is also working to extend Rutherford Boulevard and connect it to Warrior Drive…Rutledge Way, which is off of Middle Tennessee Boulevard, will also connect to the extended Rutherford Boulevard, allowing drivers even more options in their daily commutes.
Road projects and new bridges in the areas of Highway 99, River Rock Boulevard and Middle Tennessee Boulevard are part of the City’s 2040 Major Transportation Plan. Additional options for drivers to get from one side of town to the other will decrease traffic congestion in the areas of not only Highway 99, but also South Church Street and Cason Lane.
The city originally planned to have the new Beasie Road bridge that will cross over Stones River completed by mid 2024. However, the project could take slightly longer.
GREENWAY TO REMAIN OPEN: The Mayor said that Chris Griffith, Executive Director of Public Infrastructure and Nate Williams, Director of the Parks and Rec Department, are working together to ensure the portion of the Greenway that will go under the new bridge will remain open during construction. One of the main reasons the city is working to keep the Greenway open is because some residents utilize the Greenway to ride their bike to work daily.
