PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College will observe its 61st graduation ceremony on Saturday when it awards 420 degrees and certificates to graduates.
Two commencement exercises will be held in the gym of the main campus in Port Angeles, beginning at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively. A reception on Robins’ Green will immediately follow each ceremony.
Receptions will be moved into the Pirate Union Building in the event of rain.
11 a.m. ceremony — Degrees in associate in applied science, bachelor of applied science, associate in nursing, one-year certificate and high school diplomas.
2:30 p.m. ceremony — Degrees in associate in arts, associate in business, associate in computer science, associate of science.
An honorary associate of arts degree for Mark Morey, who died in February at the age of 46 of cancer, will be presented to his mother at the afternoon ceremony. Morey took journalism classes at Peninsula College but never earned a diploma. He was too busy working, conducting an award-winning career as a reporter with the Peninsula Daily News and the Yakima Herald-Republic.
Speakers include outgoing board of trustees chair Dwayne Johnson and student speakers Grace Wilson
(11 a.m.) and John Considine (2:30 p.m.).
Guests are advised to arrive early and line up near the gym entrance. The Pirate Café will be open with hot and cold beverages and snacks. Doors will open one hour before each ceremony and admission is limited to those with tickets. A half hour before each event, guests will be admitted to the venue to fill remaining seats or to stand to watch the ceremony.

The total number of graduates is 388 with 241 signed up to walk during the ceremony.
The total number of degrees are BAS, 14; Associate in Arts, 181; Associate in Science, 8; Associate in Applied Science, 95; Associate in Business, 7; Associate in Computer Science, 1; Associate in Nursing, 27.
Sixty-four high school diplomas will be awarded.
Fifty-four students earned President’s Medals. Forty-five are Phi Theta Kappa.
Running Start students graduating from high school and receiving a degree from Peninsula College number 83.
Seventeen international students will be graduating representing 12 countries: Australia, Bahamas, China, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden and Vietnam.

High school
Port Townsend High School will conduct its commencement ceremony at 7 p.m. today at McCurdy Pavilion on Fort Worden, 200 Battery Way. Guests must have tickets to enter.
Port Angeles High School (PAHS) will celebrate the commencement of its graduates at Civic Field, 307 S. Race St., at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Prior to graduation will be a graduation parade for the Class of 2023. The parade will begin at 2 p.m. at Ediz Hook and will make its way through downtown Port Angeles and up Race Street, ending at PAHS.
Sequim High School will conduct its graduation ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday at the Sequim football field at the high school at 601 N. Sequim Ave.
Quileute Tribal School will graduate seven seniors during its commencement ceremony at 5 p.m. Friday in the gym on school’s new campus, 12181 La Push Road, La Push.
The Crescent School District Class of 2023 has 21 graduates. Its commencement will be at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, June 17, in the gymnasium at the Crescent School, 50350 state
Highway 112.
Graduating last weekend were Seaview Academy, Chimacum Junior/Senior High School, Quilcene High School, Forks High School and Clallam Bay and Neah Bay high schools.
Lincoln High School’s ceremony was on Monday.
