The Riverina Anglican College return to the Wagga Wagga Civic Theatre, this time with their brilliant reimagining of the Disney classic The Little Mermaid.
With curtains rising on their first show tonight (15 June) at 7:30 pm, the cast of the Years 7-12 production said they were nervous yet excited to give patrons a brilliant night out at the theatre.
Lead actress Rose Wickson said the school had put a lot of time and energy into this year’s production, with the audition process beginning in December last year.
“The Little Mermaid is one of my favourite movies growing up,” Rose said.
“Ariel is one of my favourite Disney princesses, she means so much to so many people and I’m so excited that I get the chance to play her on stage,” Rose said.
Rose said the opportunity to work with her classmates on stage to retell such a beloved story was something that she wouldn’t soon forget.
“I’ve grown up on the stage and it’s something that I have always enjoyed, but being able to with my friends from the school with these brilliant sets and live music is something extra special.
“A lot of students, especially in regional towns don’t get the opportunity to perform on stages like this. At our school (TRAC) we do pride ourselves on performing arts space.”

TRAC will put on six shows between 15 and 18 June.
Despite having several shows in only a few days, Aisha Farah, who is this production’s Mad Queen Ursala, said she couldn’t wait for the productions to start.
“We have put so much work into this production, I think everyone is just excited to finally show what we have spent so much time on,” Aisha said.
“Staff have worked really hard on sets and costumes, we have students who are stagehands as well as a student band playing live music throughout the entire show, as well as some amazing dancers and singers who are just incredible.
Despite the effort from the students, Aisha and Rose believe the show wouldn’t be possible without the support of their head of music and drama teacher Clare Brassil.
“Miss Brassil works so hard at getting everything as close to perfect as she possibly can,” Aisha said.
“The dedication from Miss Brassil and all the other staff has created a mood that is very positive and quite infectious. The band are excited to play, the singers are eager to sing and the dancers can’t wait to hit the stage.
“It’s been a real team effort to make this something that we can be proud of and the audience can enjoy; we have done all we can to make it feel as high budget as possible.”
