The latest iteration of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes is officially teaming up with the most dangerous man in all of time.
Avengers #2 (by writers Jed MacKay, artist by C.F. Villa, and colorist Federico Blee) finds Carol Danvers unexpectedly caught in the vast, nearly void expanse that is Null-Time. There she comes face-to-face with none other than Kang the Conqueror who fled to this corner of reality in a desperate bid to stave off his own demise. Although Carol has good reason to think Kang is up to something, he is instead only looking for help getting revenge on those who left him for dead, and he is even willing to play the role of a hero to get it.

The latest run on Avengers spins out of the events of both Jason Aaron’s epic run on the title and its sister series Avengers Forever, as well as those of 2022’s Timeless. While Jason Aaron’s time with the Avengers set them up to encounter countless versions of themselves from across time and other realities to face off against the threat of Mephisto, Timeless introduced a new team of would-be heroes for Kang the Conqueror to test his mettle against while hunting down Marvel’s elusive Missing Moment.
In the wake of the former series of events, the previously bloated roster of Avengers was disassembled, with Carol being voted in as the new chairperson of the organization to hand-select its next lineup of heroes. So far, that roster includes herself, Sam Wilson, Wanda Maximoff, Thor, Vision, Iron Man, and T’Challa, the latter of whom only recently lost the position of chairperson.
Avengers #2 is written by Jed MacKay with art by C.F. Villa, colors by Federico Blee, and letters by VC’s Cory Petit. Main cover art is by Stuart Immonen, with variant covers courtesy of David Baldeón, Jesus Aburtov, George Pérez, Edgar Delgado, Mark Brooks, and Paolo Rivera. Avengers #2 goes on sale June 21 from Marvel Comics.
