In a surprise move the top team of the Broome Basketball Association league has forfeited their latest match against the Tigers, handing an easy win to the middle-of-the-ladder team at the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre basketball courts on June 7.
Despite the forfeit the Kings still remain on top of the ladder with the team boasting 13 wins while the runner-ups, Odash, sit on just nine wins.
But the forfeit didn’t stop the other teams from battling it out on the court with Odash racking up yet another easy win this time against the Gantheaume Pointers, 55 to 28.
Odash’s Ashley Spowart helped his team to victory, making two three-point shots to score a total of 13 points for the match.
The Pointers’ Farand Thompson had eight points.
The Skywalkers just managed to clinch the win from the an increasingly impressive Raiders team.
Rene Reddingius for the Skywalkers scored nearly half of his team’s points with 21. The Raiders’ Brendon Thomas was the next highest scorer of the match with 14.
But despite the Raiders continuing to make big improvements on the court it wasn’t enough to take down the Pointers, 48 to 40.
In the women’s league, the Raiders destroyed the Crystals in a one-sided clash, 64 to 9, with the Raiders’ Hayley Garlett scoring an impressive 17 points.
The Lady Bombers took home the win in a hotly contested clash against the Sky Breakers to keep themselves in the second spot on the ladder, 27 to 21.
On Call clinched the win from the Broome Blitzers, 27 to 21, with On Call’s Abbie Pittard scoring 13 points.
