Emergency services are responding after two suspicious packages have been found this morning. They are the latest in a series of similar incidents. See the full map.
This comes as a suspicious package has been discovered at St Patrick’s College, The Strand, with the incident unfolding on Thursday morning.
Two packages have been delivered to Townsville schools in the past 48 hours with St Margaret Mary’s Catholic Primary School receiving a package on Wednesday morning.
Earlier Thursday morning, emergency services also responded to a suspicious package found at Australia Post on Sturt St.
Police and Queensland Fire and Emergency Service were called to the scene about 8am on Thursday morning after the package was found.
From there, the crews headed to the school on The Strand.
Two packages have also been sent to churches in Mount Isa and Charters Towers, arriving in the week of June 2
More letters were also sent in the last week of May, with the packages arriving at peoples homes. This is thought to be the beginning of the issue.
Police believe the same person is “most likely” behind the incidents on both Wednesday and Thursday.
It is understood that envelopes have been addressed to a residence, business or school, with no name. They have been stamped, and have gone through Australia Post with the white substance inside.
The substances found to date have not been dangerous. It is not clear if this is the same for the two incidents on Thursday morning.
Investigations are ongoing.
