Heather Parry has been recognised for her endless service to the Childers community as she received an Order of Australia Medal in the King’s Birthday Honours.
For all who know Heather they say she is a selfless and much-respected member of the community, who fulfils many roles including the current positions of treasurer at both Isis District Historical Society and The Old Pharmacy.
Isis District Historical Society vice president Scott Stedman said Heather had served the community for nearly seven decades and had been treasurer of the society for almost half of those.
“Heather is an absolute treasure to the historical society,” Scott said.
“She started work at the age of 16 and she hasn’t stopped.
“From day one she has been treasurer – so that’s over 30 years now.”
Scott said Heather wore many hats and she was always at the beck and call of the community when it came to helping.
He said Heather had made a constant and selfless contribution through volunteering and fundraising, without expecting recognition or remuneration in return.
For a number of years, Heather was also a much-loved librarian in the Isis Shire Council until her retirement.
Once retired she continued as a volunteer, and is often seen selling raffle tickets in the main street of Childers for the Isis District Hospital Auxiliary and she is a member and treasurer of the Isis District Croquet Club.
Heather Parry joins Childers-born Jennifer McDuff who was also recognised for lifetime commitment with an Order of Australia Medal in the King’s Birthday 2023 Honours List.
