The Cranston West relay team of Praise Mayson, Quiana Pezza, Ailani Sutherland and Amelya D’Errico won the 400 relay at the RIIL Outdoor Track & Field State Championships last weekend at Conley Stadium. The Falcons had another big outing on the girls side, finishing fourth place as a team.
The Bishop Hendricken outdoor track and field team claimed its 27th title this past weekend while many other locals made noise on the state’s biggest stage. Hendricken finished with 113 points while second place La Salle finished with 77.
Here are some of the results from the day:
GIRLS
Sutherland placed second in the 100 dash for West. Sutherland finished third in the 200 dash, while Reece Vitale placed third in the 100 hurdles for West. Maia Riccio placed third in the javelin for the Falcons.
West’s relay team of Vitale, Stalia Biosse, Sutherland and Mayson took sixth in the 1,600. Sam Rosenfield took third in the shot put for the Falcons.
Dasani Stewart wrapped up her career in style, winning both the long jump and triple jump for Pilgrim
Toll Gate’s Alison Pankowicz placed fourth in the 1,500 run and fifth in the 3,000 run.
BOYS
West’s Alonso Parker-Sharpe took second in the 100 dash and third in the 200 dash.
Bishop Hendricken’s Xavier Wilkens took first in the 200 dash, while teammate Carson Dean won the pole vault. Damon Buchanon won the javelin throw for the Hawks.
Hendricken’s relay team of Elliot Gauvin, Anthony Manna, Jacob Coates and Edmund Lok won the 1,600. St. Ray’s standout and Warwick native Devan Kipyego won the 800 run and was a member of the relay team that took first in the 3,200.
Jack Moretta finished second in the 3,000 run for Hendricken.
Hendricken’s relay team of Anthony Manna, Tommy Flanders, Elliot Gauvin and Aidan Brindle took third in the 3,200. Hendricken’s relay team of Lok, Wilkens, Joel Felix and Nathan Rivas took third in the 400.
Hendricken’s Brayton Gazerro finished third in the 3,000 run, while Keith Daigneau took third in the hammer throw for the Hawks. Alex Morin took third in the shot put for Hendricken.
Jacob Coates placed fourth in the 400 dash for Hendricken, while Hendricken’s Jakob Reyes finished fourth in the high jump. Pilgrim’s Hunter Schobel took fourth in the long jump and triple jump. Josiah Nhar finished fourth in the discus throw for the Hawks.
Wilkens took fifth in the 100 dash for Hendricken, while teammate Keegan Tierney took fifth in the 3,000 run. Pilgrim’s Brandon Wolfendon finished fifth in the shot put.
Troy Silvestri finished sixth in the 3,000 run for the Hawks.
