It’s been a frantic start to the morning for Perth motorists, with multiple crashes on both sides of the freeway occurring not far from each other.
Main Roads WA reported crashes on the Mitchell Freeway southbound near Warwick Road and northbound near Hepburn Avenue.
In both cases, the right lanes were blocked as crews worked to clear the freeway of congestion as traffic was very heavy on approach.
Heavy rain early on Wednesday morning meant slippery and hazardous road conditions, prompting warnings from authorities.
A crash has also occurred south of the river on the Kwinana Freeway after a car went into the back of another — blocking the middle lane.
In pictures, the car’s occupant can inspect the damage as cars behind navigate their way out of the centre lane.
All crashes have since been cleared, but traffic remains heavy.
The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts Perth to receive up to 8mm of rain on Wednesday but says it should clear by the afternoon.
However, the rain is set to return for the start of the weekend; 8 mm is forecast for Friday but again is expected to clear by early Saturday morning.
