The county’s “Summer Movies in the Park” series is returning with nine showings in Poway, Rancho Bernardo, 4S Ranch and Carmel Mountain Ranch venues.
The entire series, which launched on May 26 and runs through Oct. 28 countywide, will provide 151 free movies at outdoor venues, starting at dusk.
The local movies are:
• The Disney-Pixar animated adventure comedy “Soul” can be seen on Saturday, June 17 in Poway Community Park, 13094 Civic Center Drive.
The 2020 film about a New York jazz pianist who finds himself trapped in a place between Earth and the afterlife features the voices of Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey. It won Academy Awards for “Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (original score)” and “Best Animated Feature Film.” It is rated PG.
• “DC League of Super-Pets” will be shown on Saturday, July 1 in Poway Community Park.
The 2022 animated action adventure is about how Krypto the Super-Dog must use his superpowers to rescue his best friend, Superman, who has been kidnapped. The film features the voices of Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Kate McKinnon. It is rated PG.
• “Minions: The Rise of Gru” can be seen on Friday, July 7 in the 4S Ranch Sports Park, 16118 4S Ranch Parkway. It will also be shown on Saturday, July 15 at the Poway Swim Center, 13094 Civic Center Drive.
The 2022 animated adventure comedy shares the story of how at age 12 Gru, voiced by Steve Carell, dreamed of becoming the world’s greatest supervillain. It is rated PG.
• “The Incredibles” will be shown on Friday, July 21 at the Carmel Mountain Ranch/Sabre Springs Recreation Center, 10152 Rancho Carmel Drive.
The 2004 Pixar animated action adventure film is about a family of undercover superheroes who must leave their quiet suburban lives to save the world. It features the voices of Craig T. Nelson, Samuel L. Jackson and Holly Hunter. It is rated PG.
• DreamWork’s “The Bad Guys” can be seen on Saturday, July 29 in Poway Community Park.
The 2022 animated adventure comedy is about a gang of notorious animal criminals who pretend to want rehabilitation to avoid prison, that is until their leader really wants to change his ways. It features the voices of Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron and Awkwafina. It is rated PG.
• The 1951 version of Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland” can be seen on Saturday, Aug. 12 in Old Poway Park, 14134 Midland Road.
The animated adventure comedy is about a young girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit hole and finds herself in Wonderland. There she has many extraordinary adventures and ends up crossing paths with the Queen of Hearts. It features the voices of Kathryn Beaumont and Ed Wynn. It is rated G.
• Disney-Pixar’s “Lightyear” can be seen on Friday, Aug. 18 in the 4S Ranch Sports Park.
The 2022 animated action adventure focuses on Space Ranger Buzz Lightyear, who has spent years trying to return to his home, but is hindered in his efforts by the ruthless robots commanded by Zurg. It features the voices of Chris Evans, Keke Palmer and James Brolin. It is rated PG.
• The 2019 version of Disney’s “Dumbo” can be seen in Rancho Bernardo Community Park, 18448 W. Bernardo Drive, on Saturday, Aug. 26.
The family fantasy adventure tells the story of a young circus elephant with oversized ears that help him fly. It stars Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton and Danny DeVito. It is rated PG.
Attendees are advised to arrive early, bring beach chairs or blankets and snacks. Some venues will have food available for purchase and offer pre-movie activities.
