Disgraceful on-field violence spiralled throughout Busselton’s 11.11 (77) to 0.0 (0) win over the Collie Eagles on Sunday at the Collie Recreation Ground.
A second-quarter brawl involving both teams at the scoreboard end of the ground involved thrown punches, hair pulling, charging and choking of players.
As it stands, two players — Collie’s Ada Gooch and Busselton’s Mia Dronow — have been reported for striking and charging respectively, although match officials have officially documented the melee with the SWFL.
Additionally, Busselton’s Katisha Barrett was subjected to unrelenting verbal abuse all afternoon from a small minority of teenage spectators behind the scoreboard end goals — which appeared to go unpunished.
In the midst of the hype surrounding former Fremantle Docker David Mundy making a cameo appearance at Dunsborough Playing Fields, Eaton edged out the Dunsborough Sharks in a thrilling contest in front of a record crowd on Sunday .
Eaton were quick to build up a lead, booting two goals to Dunsborough’s 1.1 to lead by five points by quarter-time.
But the Sharks put the pressure on as they inched their way towards matching Eaton, shaving the margin down to just two points by the final change.
While neither side managed to break through for a goal to seal the win during the final term, Eaton held on to claim the win 3.1 (19) to 2.5 (17).
Player-coach Kristy Jetta, skipper Sophie Oldfield and Jessica Ruland showed off their skills and leadership with stand-out performances for Eaton, while Olivia Caldow, Brigitte Morgan and Shelby Foster stood out for the Sharks.
Harvey Brunswick Leschenault have continued to show potential with a convincing 14-point win over South Bunbury at Brunswick Oval on Sunday.
While the contest seemed to be evenly matched during the opening term, the Lions made a break for the lead during the second quarter, booting two goals while keeping South Bunbury scoreless.
While Kaitlin Eades gave South Bunbury some hope with two goals during the second half, it was not enough to take down the Lions who went on to win 4.9 (33) to 2.7 (19), with a late goal to the Lions from a free kick — awarded due to dissent from a spectator — ultimately giving them a massive boost.
Giaan Evans, Sofie Murfit and Zoe Roberts were among the best for the Lions, while Eades, Nateisha Roberts and Kira Price stood out for the Tigers.
On Saturday, a four-goal haul from Emma Faulkner and an outstanding performance by Trinity Brown has helped the Harvey Bulls notch their fifth win on the trot, defeating Bunbury by 31 points.
The Bulls put their foot down during the second half, with Faulkner dominating up forward to help seal the 5.8 (38) to 1.1 (7) win on home turf.
Brown, Rachel Wright and Faulkner were among the best for the Bulls, while Mary Burke, Georgia Mahony and Kloe Bassett put on strong performances for Bunbury.
