Victorian Health Infrastructure Minister Mary-Anne Thomas has visited the Numurkah aged care facility that will benefit from a multimillion-dollar commitment from the state government, saying it shows her government is doing “what matters”.
Ms Thomas met with NCN Health staff and residents at the Pioneers Memorial Lodge aged care facility in Numurkah on Friday, June 2 to spruik the government’s inclusion of a $54 million commitment to rebuild the facility in its state budget.
“We’re doing what matters, delivering much-needed high-quality residential aged care services that will benefit older Victorians across the Goulburn Valley,” Ms Thomas said.
The Numurkah community has campaigned for more than two decades for the redevelopment, which will create a new 36-bed facility alongside the Karinya Nursing Home.
It will include larger functional rooms and corridors for improved mobility and care for residents.
“This new 36-bed facility will ensure residents can enjoy a modern and home-like setting that promotes dignity and independence, and enable staff at NCN Health to continue their amazing work caring for residents,” state Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said.
State Member for Shepparton Kim O’Keeffe has also visited Pioneers Memorial Lodge since the announcement and said the commitment was a silver lining from the state budget.
“This is a silver lining in what is a brutal state budget,” she said.
“This investment will make a tremendous difference to staff, residents and their families.”
Ms O’Keeffe, and both the Nationals and Liberal parties, had committed $25 million to rebuild the facility if the Coalition had won the last state election, a promise the Andrews Government then followed during the election campaign with its own commitment of up to $55 million.
