On Saturday night at Cannington, Electrified used the advantage of the box one draw to push through at a vital point in a rough race, and then career away for an emphatic 2023 Listed Winter Cup final win.
The Krystal and Steve Shinners bred, owned and trained chaser was always going to be hard to beat having drawn box one, and greyhound punters backed him in to odds-on favouritism in the lead-up to the race.
Despite drifting out slightly with online bookmakers to start at +110, the 2022 Group 3 Young Stars Classic winner was always handy in the run to the first corner, capitalising on severe interference to setup a race winning break on the field.
The 2023 Group 1 Perth Cup winner, Elite Machine, started a +210 second favourite with greyhound betting sites from box six, and was challenging for the lead early with Electrified and No Limit Needed (+2310), before being galloped on and falling.
Barbeque Man (+650) and Dandalup Blazer (+2110) were both severely affected by the carnage.
Having established a race winning break in to the back straight, it was only ever going to be a case of times and margins for Electrified, the 2023 Group 1 Perth Cup runner-up.
Electrified won the 49th running of the Winter Cup in 29.91 by 4.0 lengths over Katchoo (+6000), with Nangar Chief (+650) a further 4.0 lengths away on third.

Prior to the Winter Cup heats being run, it did look like Electrified and Elite Machine would be the most likely two to fight out the $19,950 to-the-winner final, but while Electrified won, Elite Machine had no luck in the heats, finishing third behind Barbeque Man.
That lack of good fortune extended to the final, where the Jamie Marsh-trained dog was brought down in running.
Happily, Elite Machine’s owner Danny Williams has reported the dog is relatively unscathed from the fall, save for “a few bumps and scratches”.
Elite Machine, who won the 2023 Listed Lew Dorsa Memorial Trophy, and ran third behind Crumble Monelli in the inaugural 2023 The Sandgroper slot race; was due to fly to Tony Brett’s Queensland kennels for the Queensland Winter Carnival and a tilt at the Group 1 Brisbane Cup.
Electrified has now had 39 starts for 22 wins and 12 minor placings.
The white and blue the son of Aussie Infrared and Miss America has now won just shy of $300,000 in prizemoney, with $293,240 so far in the bank.
Electrified is now a three-time black-type winner, adding the Listed Winter Cup title to his 2022 Group 3 Young Stars Classic win, and 2022 Listed Peter Thomas win, all at Cannington over 520m.
He was second in the 2023 Group 1 Perth Cup behind Elite Machine, second in the 2023 Group 2 Queensland Derby at Albion Park, second in the 2022 Group 1 All Stars Sprint at Cannington, and finished just out of the placings in the inaugural The Sandgroper slot race.
Electrified also finished third in the Listed Lew Dorsa Memorial Trophy final, and third in the 2023 Listed Sandi’s Me Mum Memorial at Cannington.
Electrified has an enviable black-type race final race record, having started in eight black-type finals, winning three, finishing second on three occasions, and placing third twice.
He has never been unplaced in a group or listed final race.
