A man attacked a woman at her Central Queensland home, hitting her in the head and body with a pipe before she locked herself inside to escape.
The 53-year-old man, who by law cannot be named, pleaded guilty in Biloela Magistrates Court on June 7 to contravening a domestic violence order.
Police prosecutor Jennifer Leach said about 5pm on April 24, the man returned to his Biloela home and was in the backyard, asking to be let into the house.
“The aggrieved (woman) refused to let him in due to his drinking,” Ms Leach said.
“The (woman) opened the back door and the (man) has struck (her) a number of times on the body and once on the head with a small object.”
The court heard the object was a pipe.
Ms Leach said the woman suffered a small laceration above her left eye.
The prosecutor said the woman then closed the door and locked the house, and the man left.
Police attended the house and saw the woman’s facial injury and they located the man nearby.
The court heard the man had previous domestic violence offending on his criminal history.
Solicitor Pierre Lammersdorf said the man and the woman had ended their relationship numerous months prior to this incident.
Mr Lammersdorf said that alcohol continued to be an issue for the man.
Before handing down penalty, Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale spoke to the man about his alcohol abuse.
“You’re lucky you’re not on a more serious charge than just contravening a domestic violence order, you really are,” Ms Beckinsale said.
Ms Beckinsale placed the man on 15 months’ probation and a conviction was recorded.
