Syracuse football coaches are seeing some positive developments with several three-star quarterbacks in the 2024 recruiting cycle.
Andy Bass, a quarterback/athlete from Oklahoma, officially visited the Orange this past weekend, and that trip went well, he said in an interview. The ‘Cuse has also picked up at least one prediction for Bass on Rivals.com.
John White from Mississippi, who verbally committed to Southern Miss in June of 2022, recently took an official visit to the Orange. He said the ‘Cuse is one of his top schools as well in a recent interview.
Brendan Zurbrugg from Ohio, meanwhile, is planning to officially visit Syracuse football over the weekend of June 16, according to a report. On3’s recruiting prediction machine currently has the Orange in the lead for Zurbrugg.
Syracuse football could potentially pick up a commitment from a 2024 QB soon.
The ‘Cuse coaching staff, in late May, offered a scholarship to the 6-foot, 200-pound Bass, a standout for Heritage Hall in Oklahoma City. His offer sheet also includes Air Force, Army, UConn, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Kent State, Navy, New Mexico State, North Texas, Penn, UNLV and Yale.
Bass recently was rated as three stars by 247Sports, as well as the No. 92 quarterback across the country in the 2024 cycle. He told SyracuseOnSI publisher Mike McAllister that the Orange is “definitely towards the top of my list, but I’m not ready to think about making a decision this early. I just got my first offer less than a month ago.”
Per McAllister, Bass is eyeing other visits to schools including Oklahoma, Navy, Kansas, Air Force and possibly Kansas State in the near future.
The 6-foot, 204-pound White said via Twitter that he was offered by Syracuse football on June 2 of this year. He is a star for the Madison-Ridgeland Academy in Madison, Miss.
He recently took an official visit to the ‘Cuse and told McAllister that his trip to the Hill went “great.”
Besides Southern Miss and Syracuse football, White’s offer sheet includes West Virginia, Alabama A&M, Florida Atlantic, Liberty, Toledo, Old Dominion and Tulane. He has visited West Virginia and was scheduled to also visit Cincinnati.
In McAllister’s article on June 10, White said of the Orange, “Right now they are close to the top. I’m going to try to make a decision in the upcoming week.” When I penned this column, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rated White at No. 1,310 overall and No. 82 at quarterback in this cycle.
On June 7 of this year, the 6-foot-4, 185-pound Zurbrugg said that the ‘Cuse had offered him. Per McAllister, Zurbrugg plans to take an official visit to Syracuse football this coming weekend.
According to recruiting services, Zurbrugg’s offer list also features Ball State, Bowling Green, Miami (Ohio), Toledo, Akron, Colgate, Dartmouth, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Liberty, Maine, Yale and Youngstown State.
The On3 recruiting service rates Zurbrugg, a rising senior at Alliance High School in Alliance, Ohio, as the No. 52 quarterback nationwide in the 2024 cycle.
