Zane Goddard will make his return to solo Supercars racing with plenty of colour on his Supercheap Auto wildcard.
For the first time since 2021, Goddard will contest a single-driver Supercars Championship round and will do it at the Darwin Triple Crown next weekend.
He will be driving the famous #888 in Triple Eight Race Engineering’s first non endurance wildcard.
Goddard will share the Camaro with Craig Lowndes come Sandown and Bathurst later in the year, but Darwin is at the front of mind.
He has prepared for the return round by conducting a test session at Queensland Raceway at the start of June.
With the annual trip to Hidden Valley doubling up as the annual Indigenous Round for the second straight season, Goddard’s car has also received a special livery marking the occasion.
Students aged between 14 and 20 of the Racing Together motorsport program have designed the #888 paint scheme.
The traditional Supercheap Auto red and yellow has been accompanied by a variety of artworks that “pulls the history of the land from the ground and pays homage to the ancestors and the legacy left behind”.
Goddard is thrilled with the special livery that signifies his return to solo Supercars racing.
“The livery looks fantastic,” he said.
“The students at Racing Together did a brilliant job with the artwork.
“It was amazing for Supercheap Auto to allow them to have some flexibility in the design, allowing them to incorporate some cool colours and elements into the artwork.
“You can tell there’s a lot of heart in this livery, so hopefully I can get a good result for them and make them proud of what they’ve achieved.”
In terms of the on-track challenge, Goddard is looking forward to seeing how he stakes up against the full-time stars with super soft tyres also in play.
“I’m really looking forward to finally getting to Darwin,” he said.
“It’s a very smooth track with not a lot of bumps and has a very nice flow. When you put a good lap together up there, it’s quite a nice feeling.
“The main straight is obviously very long and makes up a huge section of the track, so if we can be strong in that area, it will definitely help.
“With a mix of super soft tyres, a pretty good track surface and some hot conditions, fingers crossed everything falls into place with us.
“It’s a new car for everyone, and some people stand out at some tracks in particular, so fingers crossed we have a good showing up there.”
