WHEN artist Jedess Hudson was commissioned to design Tickford Racing’s four Indigenous Round liveries this season, she didn’t have to look too far for inspiration for the team’s Monster Energy Mustang.
The surname of star driver and Mildura product Cam Waters made sense, with the fluidity and power of water considered a reflection of motorsport’s dynamic nature.
“Water also holds deep cultural and spiritual meaning for many Indigenous peoples,” said Hudson.
“It represents life, purity, and regeneration.
“By incorporating the element of water into the artwork the team is paying tribute to the region and traditional owners of the land.”
Tickford has made more noticeable changes to its liveries for the 2023 Darwin Triple Crown than it did last year, as CEO Tim Edwards explained the significance of Indigenous Round.
“We believe in the power of sport to bring people together and celebrate diversity,” he said.
“Through the liveries we are taking to Darwin on each of our cars we aim to foster greater understanding and appreciation for the culture and history of Australia’s First Nations.”
With new looks already unveiled for James Courtney and Declan Fraser, that leaves just Thomas Randle’s Castrol Mustang to come as far as the Tickford stable goes.
