I have never done anything like this before but after my friend sent me the link to Blind Date and convinced me to apply at the same time as her, I did. I was a little worried beforehand that we might have nothing to talk about or what if it ended up feeling like an interview – I hate those dates where conversation just drags. Thankfully, this date wasn’t like that.
Christian and I did end up having quite a bit in common, so conversation was easy. We have quite a few mutual friends because of the schools we both attended, so it’s a surprise we’ve never met at events. We bonded mostly over travel. I studied in Europe while I was at uni and he has been to a lot of the places I travelled to, so we had plenty of stories to share.
My friends were joking with me before I went on the date telling me to not talk about my dog. But of course, I talked about my dog, how could I not? I think we were about 20 minutes into the date and I was already showing him pictures of my English cocker spaniel. He said he was cute. If he didn’t, that would have been a huge red flag.
I’d describe my date as very friendly. He seems very active and was even doing the HBF run the morning after our date. He also seems fairly adventurous and does quite a bit of travel in his spare time.
We stayed about three hours at the restaurant. Christian was really nice and did message me about organising another date when I’m back from overseas, which I am open to. I’m not 100 per cent sure if there was chemistry there but I think we will both know after another one. I feel like it is quite hard to get to know someone after three hours.

When my date walked in the first thing, that caught my attention was her blonde hair and blue eyes. She was very pretty.
We talking about pretty much everything from jetskis all the way through to TV shows like Criminal Minds and SVU, books, and stuff like that. So it was a really diverse conversation. There weren’t very many awkward silences at all. There was an occasional silence when each of us was eating or drinking but it wasn’t like it was a long-thought-out awkward silence. It was really good and comfortable. We work in different sectors. She is a lawyer and I’m in marketing, so it was interesting to hear about her role and what it is like.
It’s funny, we went to neighbouring brother-and-sister high schools so we were both surprised to have never crossed paths. We were in the same year group as well, with many mutual friends. We ended up bonding over the shared experience of going to such similar high schools and I guess the awkwardness of going to a single-sex school versus going to a mixed school.
Tawnee and I are both big fans of espresso martinis, so we ended up rating the martinis around Perth on a scale of 1 to 10. She likes hers a little more bitter than how I enjoy having mine. We did end up sharing one at the end of the night that kept us both wide awake.
We finished up around 9pm then both went home separately after that. We did exchange numbers and messaged that night/the following morning and plan to catch up again after her travels.
I applied for Blind Date after one of my friends did it a few months ago. He said I should apply as well, so after I got back from Europe and had given myself a little bit of time to get back to normality, I applied and the rest is history.
