- Footage shows man crashing outside school zone
- A 32-year-old man has been hit the 16 charges
Startling footage has been captured of the moment a Queensland man crashed into multiple cars outside a school zone after driving at 142km/h.
An officer on a motorbike first spotted the man’s white Ford Focus at Jones Hill near Gympie, two hours north of Brisbane, about 3.10pm on Tuesday.
Police allege he was driving 42km/h over the 100km/h speed limit on Mary Valley Rd before turning onto McIntosh Creek Rd which includes the school zone.
Dashcam footage shows the Ford Focus hitting a car it overtakes, sending it up on its side and briefly balancing on two wheels as glass shatters on the asphalt.
A young child in school uniform can be seen walking on the footpath along the side of the road.
Fortunately no one was injured in the incident.
The driver crashed into multiple cars and failed to stop before fleeing the vehicle on foot, police allege.
He was allegedly found a short distance away with a quantity of drugs, drug utensils, a small knife, and two firearms.
A 32-year-old man has been charged with 16 offences in connection to the incident, police said this week.
The charges include one count each of disobeying the speed limit, failing to comply with duties of a driver involved in a crash, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, driving a motor vehicle without a driver’s licence (disqualified by court order).
In addition police have charged him with one count of receiving tainted property and four counts of possessing dangerous drugs.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police.
The man is set to next appear in Gympie Magistrates Court on July 10.
