The yellow and black livery of Declan Fraser has received an upgrade ahead of the Indigenous Round in Darwin next weekend.
For the 2023 Darwin Triple Crown, which for the second straight season is a Supercars round dedicated to First Nations people, Fraser will drive the #56 Tickford Mustang carrying familiar colours with a slight twist.
The usual thick yellow blocks near the windows and wheels have been transformed with Indigenous artwork, while a white element has also been added.
Although unlike Tickford teammate James Courtney, Fraser’s traditional main game livery has been retained but the additions make a notable difference.
The livery has been designed by artist Jedess Hudson, who is from Cairns and is a descendant of the Ewamian and Western Yalanji people.
Hudson said the artwork showcases her ancestors’ skills as resourceful craftsmen and women.
Special white and yellow artwork has been added to Declan Fraser’s Mustang for the Indigenous Round.
“Our people had a deep understanding of the environment,” she said.
“They developed sophisticated techniques for hunting, fishing, tool-making, shelter construction, and resource management.”
Fraser, who was raised in far North Queensland at Mackay said it will be an honour to line up on the grid at Hidden Valley Raceway.
“I feel privileged to be driving a car that celebrates Indigenous culture at what is sure to be a highlight on the Supercars calendar,” he said.
“I am really looking forward to the weekend and listening and learning more about our rich cultural heritage.”
Fraser hopes racing in the top end can help him unlock his best after a tough start to the season.
