MILROY — The magic number for Reedsville is now one. Reedsville clinched at least a tie for the 2023 Mifflin County Babe Ruth championship with a 12-2 win over Strodes Mills on Wednesday night.
Any combination of a Reedsville win or a Beaver Springs loss will give the 2023 title to Reedsville.
Reedsville scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to win the game by a 10-run margin.
The game ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule. On Tuesday night, Reedsville won by the same score, also in five innings.
Reedsville didn’t get a hit in the fifth as it produced the four runs on three walks, three errors and two wild pitches.
Strodes Mills took an early 2-0 lead in the first. With two outs, Strodes produced four hits and two runs. Jaxon Strohecker, Chase Moore, Joel Beamer and Brayden Hunter each had hits.
Chase Moore had a double in the first inning rally. Ben Moore had a double for Strodes in the fifth frame.
Reedsville scored a run in the first inning, but took control of the game in the third with four runs. Wyatt Parkes had a two-run single and Nate Parkes had an RBI base hit.
Reedsville only had six hits as Carter Smith had two. He also scored four runs from his lead-off spot. He opened the Reedsville first with a double.
Wyatt Parkes went four innings and got the win. Austin McKnight pitched the fifth and had three strikeouts on 10 pitches.
Beaver Springs 7, Burnham 6
BEAVER SPRINGS – Beaver Springs kept their pennant hopes alive with a dramatic seventh inning 7-6 win over Burnham.
Tanner Kerstetter was the hero of the day for Springs as he had a game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the seventh.
Burnham led 6-3 going into the bottom of the seventh but Beaver Springs rallied for four runs to take the victory.
Springs had 11 hits with Braxton Smith getting two. Logan Walter added a triple.
The loss spoiled the big night for Burnham’s Jayden Smith. Smith smashed two home runs, solo shots in the third and seventh; Carter Yohn also had two hits for Burnham.
Noah Wert got the start for Beaver Springs on the mound, but the rookie Colten Aumiller came in relief and picked up the victory.
McVeytown 9, Milroy 4
MCVEYTOWN – McVeytown moved into the sixth place with a 9-4 win over Milroy. It was McVeytown’s third win in the last four games.
Elliott Yetter picked up the win for McVeytown on the mound. He pitched the first five innings and struck out three, walked six and gave up just two hits. Shane Moist closed out the game for McVeytown.
The winners had eight hits and three of those went for extra bases. Nazae Traxler and Gatlin Kauffman each had triples and Trayven Shaffer added a double. Yetter was the only multiple hitter for McVeytown with two. Jarren Kenny had two of the six hits for Milroy.
Lewistown 10, Belleville 3
LEWISTOWN — Lewistown’s Chase Hartung pitched into the seventh inning as he helped Lewistown to a 10-3 win over Belleville.
Hartung had eight strikeouts, walked four and gave up seven hits. His younger brother, Lucas, got the final two outs of the inning.
Belleville had one multiple hitter. Mason Joyce with two. Dekker Pietzach and his sister Macy each had doubles for Belleville.
Lewistown finished with eight hits. Zane Gramley led the way with three, Bo Reeder and Dylan Wray each had two. Reeder and Wray both had doubles.
