By Rockhampton Dog Obedience Club
The weather turned quite cool for the third Rockhampton Dog Obedience Club trial of the year which was great for our Tricks competitors who started first at 1:30pm ahead of the Agility & Jumping and Obedience Trials.
Tricks is a competition that encourages new handler to start competing and challenges experienced handlers to continue the life long journey with their dogs.
Debutante Tricks handler Kimberley was excited and a tad bit nervous at the same time to give it a go with her life companion Jericho. Kimberly and Jericho have been attending classes at the Rockhampton Dog Obedience club for over a year and through the variety provided in the Fun class decided that Tricks sounded just like the right path to introduce them into the world of dog sports.
Kimberly and Jericho had a wonderful time in the Tricks ring. Their months of training were put to the test, with some extra challenges that aren’t present on a training night, but that’s why we compete with our dogs – to connect and work together in challenging environments fostering that beautiful bond that is created between dog and handler.
Gay and Nina have been a team for a very long time now and challenges are something that the team enjoys. Competing in the highest-level run at the weekend’s trial Gay and Nina gained two qualifications in Trick Dog Intermediate gaining them a Title in this class propelling them into Trick Dog Advanced category for their next competition.
There was also some outstanding results in the Obedience ring this weekend with Annette and Flynn gaining a qualification with a score of 197/200 in CD (which also gained them their CD title) and Glynis and Comet with a score of 190/200.
Sunday’s trial also saw Annette and Flynn with a double – Qualification with two perfect scores of 100/100 in Rally Novice and a qualification in Novice jumping giving them their Novice Jumping title and moving them up to Excellent jumping at their next trial.
Glynis and Comet also scored 100/100 in their second round Rally Novice run outdoing their first run of 93/100. Two quallies to add to their record and only 1 more needed under a different judge for a Title in Novice Rally.
Away from home the weekend before some of our Rockhampton Dog Obedience club members travelled away to Tansey to compete in Tracking and came home with all competitors smiling. Qualification passes for Annette & Flynn (TD7 Excellent), Christine & Opal (TD4 Very good) and Jaime & Koda (TD2 Very good).
