Get ready to warm your soul with local drops and fill your belly with delicious food, from six-course dinners to a free wine tasting in the city, there’s something for every kind of wine connoisseur and plenty of good excuses to get your foodie mates together.
Tempus Two Six-Course Wine Match Dinner
Say that ten times fast—and after six glasses of the bold, elegant wines by Tempus Two you might get just a little tongue tied. Perfect for wine lovers (or anyone looking for a more elevated dining experience) on Friday 23 June, the Canberra Labor Club Belconnen is hosting a culinary journey like no other with a six-course wine match dinner.
So, what’s on the menu? Think: Olasagati Anchovies, Beef Tartare Tartlet, Free Range Berkshire Pork Chop, Mandarin Granita, Macerated Strawberries and Rhubarb, warm Camembert, and more…
Friday 23 June, 6:30 pm – 9 pm | 51 Chandler Street, Belconnen | Book here.
Eden Road Wine Dinner
If you haven’t had the chance to pop out to Eden Road Wines in Murrumbateman to sample some of their award-winning cool climate wines, you won’t want to miss this.
Hosting a five-course dinner (matched with Eden Road wines of course) at 1882 Hall, in this intimate winter event you’ll not only get to celebrate some great local wines and seasonal produce, but you’ll also get a chance to chat with the winemakers themselves. Another glass? Wine-not!
Thursday 13 July, 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm | 13 Gladstone Street, Hall | Book here.
Aranda Garden Dinner
Kicking off at 10 Yards with a tour of the Aranda gardens and grounds, this will be an evening full of feasting and drinking. Want to know what to expect? You’ll be able to graze on produce from the Aranda gardens and sip on locally sourced wine from the Canberra wine district—which, of course, has been paired perfectly with each dish.
Plus, there will also be chefs and gardeners on hand to talk through what you’re eating!
Saturday 29 July, 4 pm – 8 pm | 68 Bandjalong Crescent, Aranda | Book here.
Annual Truffle Gala
It’s not winter in Canberra until you get the chance to try some edible black gold with matched wines. Luckily the good news is that the Contentious Character Annual Truffle Gala is back! Expect all things truffle (which a few surprises thrown in) in this chef-customised four-course matched dinner.
With previous menu items that included Vodka and Black Truffle Butter, Szechuan Duck Breast with Truffle Mash, and Baked Camembert with sliced Black Truffle, it sounds like the perfect way to spend a winter night.
Saturday 5 August, 6:30 pm | 810 North Road, Wamboin | Book here.
Free wine tasting in the city
You read that right. Every Thursday from 5 pm until 7 pm, if you pop into Canberra Wine and Spirit Merchants, you’ll be able to join them for a free wine tasting with the maker (and 10 percent off the tasting range). With the cost-of-living crisis forcing us to tighten our purse strings even more, this might just be the most budget-friendly way to try—and possibly buy—a new wine without breaking the bank.
Every Thursday, 5 pm – 7 pm | 39 Ainslie Place, Canberra City | More information here.
