Parts of the Peacehaven Undercliff Walk are set to be closed over the next seven days as important sea defence work begins. The sea defences, which are on the undercliff walking route, are set to be replaced in areas around the Bastion Steps, a popular walking destination.
From Tuesday (June 6), it was announced that partial closures will be in place “for a few hours at a time” to allow for the resin to dry. This is essential before people can walk on certain parts of the path again.
In a social media post by Lewes District Council, it was confirmed that the specialist contractors working on the 140 metres of sealant are CJ Thorne. These works have been deemed essential.

A spokesperson for Lewes District Council said: “Important works to Peacehaven sea defences start this week. Specialist contractors CJ Thorne will be working in the area around the Bastion Steps to replace around 140 metres of sealant to the concrete slabs that make up the undercliff walk.
“The works are expected to last around 7 days and partial closures will be in place for a few hours at a time to allow the resin to dry properly before it can be walked on again. Thank you for your patience and understanding whilst these essential works take place.”
The replacement works should be finished by next Monday (June 12) or Tuesday (June 13).
