Here are the top stories in Bedford today:
- The Educational Farm at Joppa Hill hopes to reach its goal of raising $10K to support the nonprofit farm during the NH Gives day-of-giving on June 6 and 7. The Educational Farm “was selected as a recipient of this year’s NH Gives event.” NH Gives, hosted by The NH Center for Nonprofits, is the state’s largest day-of-giving event to benefit nonprofits. The Educational Farm at Joppa Hill, Inc started as a nonprofit in 2004 on land leased from the Town of Bedford. The farm land is under “conservation easements” and “connects to an extensive trail system overseen by the Piscataquog Land Conservancy.” (The Educational Farm at Joppa Hill via Facebook)
- Bedford pharmaceutical outsourcing company PCI Pharma Services is part of New Hampshire’s booming $2.8 billion biomanufacturing industry, a new study reports. Other major life science players in New Hampshire include the nonprofit Advanced Regenerative Manufacturing Institute in Manchester, a developer of engineered tissues and tissue-related technology. Global oncology and medical device company Novocure is also a major life sciences company in the state that is planning a $9.5 million expansion in downtown Portsmouth. The average salary for New Hampshire life sciences jobs is $130K. (New Hampshire Business Review)
- Wildfire smoke will bring unhealthy air and hazy skies to Bedford and Southern New Hampshire Wednesday. The smoke from the central Quebec wildfires has been creating unhealthy air quality for sensitive people since Tuesday. The Hampshire Department of Environmental Services said anyone with asthma or other lung conditions should “limit their time outdoors until the smoke clears.” (WMUR)
