ALBANY – A 41-year-old Albany woman was charged in connection with a domestic related homicide late Friday afternoon on South Pearl Street, city police said Saturday.
At about 4:45 p.m., officers responded to South Mall Towers, 101 S. Pearl St., for reports of a person with a weapon. Police said they found 58-year-old James West in an eighth floor hallway with a stab wound to his neck. West was evaluated by emergency medical personnel and pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said through the investigation they learned West was stabbed by Kyisha Smith, a person known to West, and that the stabbing occurred during a domestic-related altercation between the two inside of the building not far from where West was found by officers.
Shortly after the call, Smith was located inside another apartment in the building and taken into custody. Smith was charged with one count each of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
She is scheduled to be arraigned Sunday morning in Albany City Criminal Court.
