The summer travel season is nearly upon us, and this year is gearing up to be a record one for American travelers.
Both domestic and international travel bookings are showing greatly increased numbers compared to last year, with people wanting to go from everywhere to beaches, theme parks, big cities, and beyond.
To help to get a big picture as to where American travelers are heading this summer, travel insurance company Allianz Partners’ analyzed more than 1.6 million flight itineraries for travel booked between Memorial and Labor Day.
Using this data, the company compiled lists of the top 10 places people had booked for their summer trip, with respective lists for international as well as domestic travel.
These trips include anyone who booked online with any travel partners that offer Allianz Global Assistance travel insurance, with travel departing from U.S. airports during the summer travel season between May 26th to September 5th.
One important factor to consider is that to be included in this survey, the trips analyzed averaged between five to eight days in length.
Out of the more than 1.6 million flight itineraries included in this study, 73% of travelers are planning on staying in the US this summer for their trips, with 27% planning on heading to destinations abroad.
