EMERGING singer-songwriter Jaxon Reid has released his debut single Breaking, a song where the Gold Coast-based artist touches on his struggles through the recent COVID lockdowns.
The 17-year-old Bendigo-born and raised Reid who moved to the Gold Coast in 2022 following the lockdowns to focus on his music and swimming careers said producing Breaking was a collaborative affair.
“The single I actually wrote with my dad during the lockdown,” he said. “We were both really upset and confused because we were both trapped inside.
“We’d see all these news stories all the time and everyone had all these different opinions, and we didn’t know what to believe.
“One day we came together, and we started talking about it because we didn’t want to keep our feelings bottled in.
“Then we just put those words over a few chord progressions and that’s how Breaking came to be.”
Reid said early reaction to the single had been positive, even catching others singing his tune on occasion.
“I have been getting some really good feedback I performed the song live at school last week and everyone seemed to like it,” he said. “I heard a few people humming it as I walked past.
“I also do a bit of busking on the Gold Coast, and I performed Breaking there to try and get it out.
“And I went to the bathroom after I performed and I was walking along and there were these two girls sitting on a bench watching my music video, which was kind of wild.”
Bendigo still holds a special place in his heart Reid said and he hopes to find himself back in town soon.
“I had such a great group of friends,” he said. “I used to play footy for Golden Square and swim at Bendigo East. I do miss it quite a bit it was so hard because that was my entire life.
“There are plans on doing a small shopping centre-like promo tour. So, we will go all down the coast of Australia and finish around Geelong and back into Victoria.
“So, I’m pushing to go back to Bendigo to try and do something then!”
