Tin City Reopens in Naples with 100th Anniversary Party. The iconic waterfront shopping and dining destination suffered serve damage from Hurricane Ian. Then, when recovery was picking up speed, a speeding car crashed into the building wrecking many of the shops and stores all over again. While many business have been back for a couple of months, the official reopening was celebrated over the weekend, coupled with a huge anniversary party.
Tin City is downtown Naples on the Gordon River. It could be described as Naples’ boardwalk. You can see the colorful shops and restaurants as you cross the river while traveling on Tamiami Trail. Tin City is named for it’s rustic tin buildings that were home to oyster processing businesses decades ago. It has that “old Florida” vibe. A rustic contrast to some of the posh neighborhoods not far away.
Most of the dining is casual, featuring Florida fare. In addition, much of the shopping is geared to the Florida lifestyle, such as the tropical Christmas ornaments pictured above. You can also catch ferry rides along the river as well as fishing charters into the gulf and bay, from boats that are docked at Tin City’s marina.
While most of Tin City is open for business again, four shops in building #1 are still under repair. However, the damage is not from Hurricane Ian. The destruction was caused November 25th an out of control car crashed through the building and burst into flames.
