Winter in the City is returning to the City Centre, once again transforming it into a magical winter wonderland from 30 June to 16 July.
Embracing our seriously cool Canberra winter, for the first time visitors will be able to experience real, fresh snow, as well as toboggan rides, ice skating, hot chocolate and roasting marshmallows. Open daily from 9am, the festival will be located at Civic Square and Ainslie Place.
Alongside Winter in the City, there is even more to enjoy about winter this year in Canberra, with the Xmas in July Festival returning for a second year, Questacon’s mid-winter night experiences, and a winter innovation festival, Uncharted Territory at the Australian National University and City Centre.
Bringing the beautiful winter markets from France to the Capital, Xmas in July Festival will take place at Parkes Place Lawns from 22 June to 2 July. Including the popular raclette melted cheese igloo experiences, visitors can also wander through the festive stalls tasting authentic food and drinks from around the world while listening to live music and Christmas carols.
Questacon’s mid-winter nights will once again see illuminated igloos, roaming performances, mesmerising fire shows, family-friendly activities and science. Perfectly timed over the school holidays from 5-8 July, this is a family activity not to be missed.
Over 7-16 July, Uncharted Territory will be in and around the Australian National University and City Centre showcasing some of Canberra’s most formidable minds and talents in innovation, art and science.
So, if you were bummed about the chilly Canberra weather, grab your jacket and embrace the cold weather with the best winter-themed events in the Capital.
