Heavy police presence remains at Sunnybrook Park Sunday evening after a daylight shooting involving two suspects and a vehicle that crashed into a pole.
Officers were dispatched to the scene near Lawrence Avenue East and Leslie Street shortly after 5:38 p.m. after reports of gunshots.
Police later confirmed a firearm discharge on the scene after shell casings were recovered. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still unknown, and no injuries have been reported, officers added.
Toronto police told the Star one vehicle fled the scene after the firearm discharge in an “unknown direction.”
A second vehicle, police said, crashed into a pole after the incident. Two male suspects allegedly fled from the car on foot and are now being sought by officers.
No charges or arrests have been made at this time.
Pedestrians have been advised to use “caution” in the area. Lawrence Avenue East is closed westbound of Tremont Crescent.
Sunday’s daylight suspects are the latest in a growing list of suspects at large and sought after by Toronto police over the weekend.
Around 3:40 a.m. on Saturday, police attended an assault in the King Street West and Blue Jays Way area after two men allegedly “seriously assaulted” a victim before fleeing the scene. Police say the men are considered violent, and if spotted, they should not be approached and call 9-1-1 immediately.
Later on Saturday, police responded to a carjacking at Bathurst Street and Adelaide Place. A person was rushed by paramedics to a hospital with serious injuries. The suspect, who fled with the stolen vehicle, remains at large.
Meanwhile, on Sunday morning, police were investigating after a person suffering from gunshot wounds walked into a hospital after a shooting in Midland and Sheppard Avenue East.
Toronto police are also looking for a man who allegedly attacked a rider on Friday without provocation on a TTC bus putting them in a “choke hold and causing injuries.”
Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to contact police at 416-808-5200 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477) or www.222tips.com.
