F1 pundit Martin Brundle asked Mason Mount the question on everyone’s lips during his Spanish Grand Prix grid walk on Sunday. The England international is heavily linked with a move from Chelsea to Manchester United, although he kept his cards close to his chest when pressed on recent speculation.
Fellow Chelsea stars Reece James and Ben Chilwell were also at Circuit de Catalunya for Sunday’s main event, and they were both quizzed on whether Mount could jump ship at Stamford Bridge over the coming months.
The 24-year-old is rumoured to have agreed personal terms with the Red Devils, who could fend off rival interest from Arsenal and Liverpool by getting the deal done this summer. Mount has only one year remaining on his contract with the Blues, who endured a torrid 2022/23 campaign.
After James and Chilwell both admitted that they hope their team-mate stays in west London, Brundle then had the opportunity to pop the question to Mount himself during the grid walk.
When approaching the midfielder live on Sky Sports, Mount asked Brundle what Chilwell had been saying in his ear moments prior.
“He said you’re going to Manchester United,” a smirking Brundle responded. Mount then replied: “No I’m here to just enjoy the race today. It’s been an amazing day [so far] and I can’t wait to watch it, yeah.”
Mount, Chilwell and James may also have run into Kylian Mbappe while at the circuit near Barcelona, where the French Paris Saint-Germain star was a high-profile invited guest in the Ferrari paddock.
The Chelsea trio might have to wait until June 14 for concrete developments on Mount’s future, with the Premier League summer transfer window just over a week away from swinging open.
