Ballarat

Race 2. (12:40) CVLX Maiden (1200m)
#3 – Palantus @ $3.50
Palantus comes off three consecutive second placings and it’s about time he won.
The Maher/Eustace-trained runner comes off a placing at Kyenton and we expect that form to hold up well at this level.
Barrier four is ideal and punters get each-way odds.
Race 4. (13:55) Nova Injectables Maiden (1600m)
#9 – Midnight Lady @ $4.20
Midnight Lady is another runner knocking on the door of a maiden win following four consecutive placings.
The three-year-old filly went well at Cranbourne when third last time out, which was a strong maiden field.
$4.20 for a quality runner is good shopping.
Race 5. (14:30) Porter Plant BM78 (2000m)
#5 – Daiquiri @ $2.45
Daiquiri owns two wins and two placings from eight starts, including a win at Ballarat in his Australian debut.
The former European won by 2.5 lengths as a $12 chance, so we’re not surprised by the shorter odds available.
He shouldn’t have much trouble rising through the grades.
Race 6. (15:10) Hygain Winners Choice BM64 (1200m)
#9 – Corner Off @ $2.70
Corner Off has more talent than most of these runners, so we’re putting him her on top.
She owns a win and three placings from five starts, and she comes off a second placing at Geelong against some nice types.
Getting the inside draw should secure a good run throughout.

Race 2. (12:45) McPherson’s Parts & Services C2 (1600m)
#4 – Avalicious @ $2.90
Avalicious has been mixing her form recently, but she’s talented at best and worth following.
The four-year-old mare by Stratum Star owns two wins and seven placings from 19 starts, and she runs well in these conditions.
We’re happy to take the odds available.
Race 3. (13:25) Telescope Tyres Satellite Handicap (1200m)
#7 – Lady Shenanigans @ $3.80
Lady Shenanigans won well two back at Taree and anything close to that performance could be enough.
The five-year-old gelding is a five-time winner overall, and he didn’t do much wrong when placing at Bathurst last start.
It’s worth including in selections.
Race 4. (14:00) Hankook Tyres BM58 (1000m)
#9 – Loving Angel @ $2.10
Loving Angel was too quick for them at Wellington last start and that’s usually a good form guide.
The four-year-old mare took her time to break maidens, but that win should do her confidence the world of good.
We’re not surprised by the money coming her way with bookmakers.
Race 7. (15:55) Parkes Cup (1600m)
#2 – Kipanui @ $4.60
Punters get each-way odds for Kipanui, who won at Hawkesbury three starts back, and that’s the best form guide.
The six-year-old gelding has since run second at Moonee Valley and seventh at Randwick, so we’re surprised that he’s not the favourite.
Take the odds before they firm on race day.
