The Across The Waves Eagles continues to soar in the AFL Wide Bay Takalvans Senior Women’s competition.
With six rounds done and dusted, the Eagles are yet to be defeated.
Last weekend, they won 4.6.30 – 1.2.8 against Brothers Bulldogs in Round 6.
Waves senior women’s coach Michael Blair said the Eagles played a good first half, and only let one goal through late in the fourth quarter.
He said Olivia Wightman had done a good job at halfback in the clash against Brothers.
This week the Eagles have a bye while Brothers take on Bay Power at Keith Dunne Oval.
Blair said the break was a good chance for everyone to recharge before heading into the second half of the season.
He said they weren’t playing anywhere near what they were capable of with the best yet to come.
He said they were timing their run.
Brothers coach Felicity Tankey said the match was “pretty much what I thought it’d be” with an under-manned squad.
While this isn’t the first time they’ve played without a bench this season, she said the team did “really well” with late changes to the team sheet and the game plan.
She said they all pulled together for their match against the hard-hitting and experienced Waves outfit.
Tankey said it was good to hold them to a low score, particularly given last year’s difference was around 70 points.
Their goal-kicker for the match was Sharna Curtis, who is typically a defender for the Bulldog, but was in the frontline and took a “fantastic” mark before sending the ball between the sticks.
Tankey is looking forward to the match against Bay Power in Hervey Bay this weekend and the Big Freeze fundraising event to help fight Motor Neurone Disease.
She said she’ll be sliding into ice, or something to that effect, for a good cause.
The match at Keith Dunne Oval kicks off at 2pm with the senior men’s match starting at 3.30pm.
