The Manning High School class of 1960 held its 63rd reunion on April 22, 2023 at Porter Jacks in Manning SC. The Guest of Honor was a beloved former teacher Mrs. Sylvia Weinberg Clark, who was the youngest teacher at the time at Manning High School.
Classmates and their families were greeted at the door by the class vice president, William Brewer. A remembrance table with a candle and the names of those classmates who are no longer with them was presented by Frankie Griffith Geddings, Susan Dennis Carter, and Mary Edith Eaddy.
Ray Richburg gave the invocation. Meree Morris McAlister and Karen Thompson Senn read a poem about the class that included every classmates name and was written my May Hinson and printed in the school newspaper, The Monarch, on May 27, 1960. Jackie Eadon Chalfont read a tribute poem she wrote about the old Manning High Building and its meaning in their lives.
Brownie Parker, class valedictorian and retired Neurosurgeon from Fort Worth, Texas, presented a moving keynote speech on The Meaning of Life. George Lesesne led the group in a fun trivia game of 1960 history that was won by Alice Vassar Dupont. Awards were given to the Senior Superlatives and Special Community Service awards were given to William Brewer and Mary Edith Eaddy for their outstanding service to the Clarendon Community.
All agreed it was a successful reunion and voted to have annual reunions for the class ongoing. The meeting was ended with the singing of the Alma Mater. A special thank you to all who attended and to Porter Jacks for the great meeting space and the great meal.
