Ahly has already put one foot forward on the road to the prestigious tournament final after an impressive 3-0 win over Esperance in Rades.
The victory put the 10-time African champions Ahly on course for a fourth consecutive final and an overall 11th Champions League title.
“Sure we are happy with this big result away from home, but this does not mean that we already qualified for the final,” the Swiss coach said in the press conference after the game.
The return leg will be played on Friday, 19 May, in Cairo.
“Qualification is not decided yet. We saw that Liverpool return back with four goals against Barcelona and also Juventus netted three goals away against Real Madrid,” the Ahly coach explained.
“We will not underestimate our opponent in the return match. Qualification will be decided only after the next game final whistle. We will be fully concentrated as everything is possible in football,” he concluded.
In 20 previous match-ups between the two North African powerhouses, Ahly walked with 10 victories and Esperance with four victories, while six ended in a draw.
