Race 2. (12:55) XXXX Gold Maiden Handicap (1300m)
#5 – Freewheeler @ $2.10
Freewheeler comes off a second placing at Moree and a slightly better effort should see him winning.
The three-year-old son of Fastnet Rock was only a half-length behind the winner and punters get fair odds from bookmakers.
Maiden grades won’t hold him for long.
Race 4. (14:10) Aquawest Maiden (1000m)
#1 – Devilicious @ $2.05
Devilicious owns three placings from four starts, so the three-year-old is knocking on the door of a win.
The Cameron Crockett-trained son of Sooboog ran second at Tamworth fresh up and that was a good indication of what’s to come.
$2.05 is short but he could start shorter on race day.
Race 6. (15:25) Dubbo Pet Medical Centre C1 (1100m)
#2 – Just an Upstart @ $4.40
Just an Upstart capped off consistent form with a win at Dubbo and he’s good enough to rise through the grades.
The three-year-old son of Choisir won impressively by 4.3 lengths, so that suggests that C1 grade won’t be too tricky.
We’re surprised by the each-way odds available.
Race 8. (16:40) McDonald’s Dubbo BM58 (1600m)
#8 – Avalicious @ $7
Avalicious is always around the mark and she’s a much better mare than her record suggests.
She owns two wins from 20 starts, including two placings at Dubbo, so that bodes well, and punters get lovely odds.
It’s an even field but she could be the best of them.

Race 2. (13:30) Harris Automotive Engineering Maiden (1400m)
#1 – Boominartie @ $2.05
Boominartie has been around the mark so far and the gelding by Flying Artie should be tough to beat.
The three-year-old will need to show some pace from an outside barrier, but he only needs come cover to go close.
He has been heavily backed in early markets.
Race 3. (14:00) Evergreen Turf Maiden (1400m)
#8 – Statesmanship @ $4.60
Statesmanship almost got the job done fresh up at Geelong and we’re picking him to go one better.
The four-year-old son of So You Think always shows good barrier speed, so he should be able to cross from barrier 11.
Money is starting to come for him.
Race 5. (15:00) Sportsbet Bet with Mates BM58 (2200m)
#1 – California Longbow @ $3.30
California Longbow is getting close to posting his eighth win following consecutive placings.
The seven-year-old son of Pierro placed at Bairnsdale before placing at Geelong, so it’s good form for Pakenham.
Rising in weight shouldn’t worry him too much.
Race 6. (15:30) Dalton Consulting BM64 (1400m)
#1 – Redzoust @ $4
Redzoust struggled at his last two starts, but they came at The Valley and Flemington.
The McEvoy-trained colt will find this much easier, and if he doesn’t win, he could get the ultimate gear change.
$4 is a good price for a talented type.
