A young child has tragically died in hospital after becoming trapped in a home engulfed in flames in central Australia.
Emergency services rushed to the scene in Thorold Court in Larapinta on the outskirts of Alice Springs just after 10.30am on Thursday follows reports of a house fire.
Firefighters forced entry into the burning home.
They searched the premises and dragged out the unresponsive child as emergency responders commenced CPR on the young patient.
St John Ambulance paramedics rushed the child to Alice Springs Hospital where they later died.
Detectives and fire investigators have launched an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
Residents and motorists were urged to avoid the area as firefighters battled the inferno.
‘Smoke from this fire may affect visibility and firefighting crews may be working close to the roadside,’ a NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services alert read.
