Spencer Park continued their premiership defence with a dominant 5-1 win over North Albany in the Lower Great Southern Hockey Association men’s A-grade competition on Saturday.
James Leiper bagged a brace to go with goals by Darren Parkes, Hennie Botha and Brodie Sarre, with Robert Stan-Bishop scoring for the Redbacks.
Reigning best-and-fairest winner Charlie Hudson was outstanding along with Leiper and Sarre to help Park remain undefeated.
The Redbacks were best served by Sorren Humphries, Oliver Ritchie and Simon Philpott.
Peaks notched their second win of the season over the lowly Vikings with a 2-0 triumph, with Mitch Bradbury and Chris Metcalfe both finding the back of the net.
Nick Bradbury and Tim Pyle were outstanding, while midfield star Metcalfe also shone.
The Vikings’ best players were Paul Stobie, Tim Burns and David Pyle.
Meanwhile, reigning premiers North Albany kept their undefeated status alive in the women’s A-grade competition, easing past Manypeaks in round six on Saturday.
The Redbacks are off to a flying start from their first six rounds of action, having conceded only four goals across their campaign.
That rigid defence held up once again at the weekend as the team put three goals past Peaks without conceding at the other end.
Beck Gallimore, Casey Gabriel and Charlotte Powis all hit the scoresheet to guide Redbacks to a sixth straight win. Sarah Gallimore was brilliant for the winning side, as were Beck Gallimore and Jayne McTaggart.
Pippa Wilson was among the best for Peaks and had plenty of support from Renae Sheridan and Lysbeth Cunningham.
In the other women’s A-grade game, five different players found the back of the net for Spencer Park in their 5-1 rout over LGSHA.
Georgina Lilford continued her early-season form with a goal, while Tallulah Gouldthorp, Paige Ogden, Tessa Wood and Annie Judd also chipped in.
Lilford, Ogden and Wood were named in the best players for Park, while LGSHA had sound contributions from Natasha Lewis (one goal), Emmeline Cunningham and Jess Cant.
