LAST month’s Mildura Make-A-Wish charity ball has become the most successful event held by the branch since its inception in 2017.
This year’s ball, held on April 29, achieved both record attendance and a record donation amount, that well exceeded the branch’s expectations.
President Samantha Freckleton said the charity had hoped to raise $75,000 from the event, but raised $83,000.
More than 380 people attended, participating in live and silent auctions, and enjoyed food, drinks and entertainment.
Liz Serbest, also won a MG Core, which was donated by Mildura resident Paul Bromell.
Ms Freckleton said the car giveaway was a big draw card, but believed the large amount of money raised was also due to people’s awareness of the charity.
“We have had a few wishes and we are getting great publicity,” she said.
“I think people are becoming more aware we are actually here and what we do which is awesome.”
Make-A-Wish Mildura has six children in the program, with more set to join in the coming months.
Ms Freckleton said it was great to see a smile on the children’s faces, and encouraged people who knew children living with critical illnesses to get in touch.
“A wish is a journey from beginning to end … there are memories the kid will have forever,” she said.
“We have done everything from make a unicorn fly to send a little boy to the moon.
“Make A Wish has done some incredibly amazing things.”
