UPDATED: NT Police confirmed they are investigating the assault of a woman in Ali Curung last night after she was reportedly found in bushland with her injuries to her legs and head.
The assault is believed to involve the woman being beaten with a hard piece of metal, a source said, in what police suspect is a domestic violence incident.
She was taken to Alice Springs Hospital with her injuries.
A source told the NT Independent about the incident, which had not been publicly reported by police.
On Wednesday morning, police confirmed the assault and said investigations are continuing, but no charges had been laid.
“Northern Territory Police are investigating an alleged domestic violence incident last night in Ali Curung,” police spokesman Brett Lewis said.
“A woman was conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital and is expected to be discharged later today. Investigations are ongoing.”
Police later released a public statement about the incident on Wednesday afternoon, stating that a 25-year-old man was arrested in relation to the alleged domestic violence incident on a 21-year-old woman.
Police said she had received head injuries and leg bruising after allegedly being assaulted with a blunt weapon.
The man had fled the scene but was later arrested and police said they expected to lay charges later today.
