Far North shoppers with a hankering for sweet deals and rock bottom prices have much to look forward to this weekend as a beloved op shop chain runs its annual retail extravaganza sale.
St Vincent de Paul Society NSW Executive Director in Commercial Enterprise, Fundraising and Communications Yolanda Saiz says Vinnies is seeing a 20 per cent increase in demand due to cost of living pressures.
“Unfortunately Vinnies is seeing about a 20 per cent increase in demand over this Christmas period as compared to last year,” Ms Saiz told Sky News Australia.
“What we do know is one in four people are actually turning to us for the very first time which clearly indicates that people are struggling with the cost of living.
“Very worrying for all of us is that four out of five of the people coming to Vinnies are actually coming to us for the very basics such as food.”
Between June 1 and 3, Vinnies Queensland is throwing open its doors to bargain hunters to indulge in a preloved paradise of vintage finds, unique fashions and homewares at half price.
Vinnies Queensland FNQ retail operations manager, Kate Douglas said it was “guilt-free shopping that made a difference” to support those in the community facing hardships including housing and homelessness in the face of cost-of-living pressures.
“Our 50 per cent off sale is a golden opportunity to seize incredible fashion bargains while doing your part to help our community’s most vulnerable,” she said.
“When you shop in Cairns this Thursday to Saturday, you can experience the thrill of the hunt and discover op shop gold – whether it’s finding perfect fitting vintage Levi’s or discovering amazing brands like Chanel, Zimmerman, Lululemon and RM Williams.
“Our shelves and racks will be restocked with thousands of new items daily.”
Donations are accepted throughout sale periods during operating hours at all Vinnies stores.
