Three Keppel electorate schools are benefitting from professionals such as Psychologists, Social Workers and Guidance Officers, supporting students and teachers alike as part of the government’s Wellbeing Professionals in Schools Program.
Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga said the local schools benefitting from the $106m Wellbeing Package are Farnborough State School (Guidance Officer), Lakes Creek State School (Social Worker) and Yeppoon State High School (Guidance Officer).
“The State Government’s $106.7 million investment over three years for a Student Wellbeing Package will ensure every student in every primary and secondary state school in Queensland has access to a health and well-being professional at their school,” Ms Lauga said.
“Under the package, 50 Queensland state schools will participate in the GPs in Schools Pilot program, and up to 464 additional wellbeing professionals are being employed to provide extra support for student mental health and wellbeing.
“Some 45 out of the 50 pilot schools have commenced providing a GP service as of 16 May, 2023, with the remaining five pilot schools expected to commence their service by 30 June 2023.”
Ms Lauga said over 340 wellbeing professionals, including 138 psychologists, have already been employed through the Student Wellbeing Package and are working across 679 Queensland state schools to provide direct support for students’ wellbeing and mental health.
