New York chic meets Queensland’s laid-back lifestyle in a recently completed New Farm apartment that is currently for sale by expression of interest.
Located in the Argyle development at 49 Maxwell St, the three-bedroom residence offers expansive river views, a bespoke interior design, and proximity to both the city and attractions like the Howard Street Wharves.

Owners Kym and Adam Barclay, founders of property company, Gallery Group, purchased the apartment off-the-plan back in 2020 and moved into their newly finished home in March this year.
The couple were drawn to the apartment’s central location and impressive vista, which encompasses the city skyline, Story Bridge, and Kangaroo Point.
“We’d never seen an apartment with this much river frontage,” Ms Barclay explained.
“There’s so much to see on the river each day and it’s a view that comes to life all over again at sunset when the colours of the bridge change and the lights of the city come on.”
Boasting 21m of river frontage, the Barclay’s apartment is one of just 12 in the complex and the couple significantly modified its floorplan to suit their lifestyle and needs.
“Originally it was designed as a four-bedroom apartment, but we took that to three bedrooms to provide extra living spaces,” Ms Barclay said.
“We also turned the library off the formal dining room into a high bar with stools and added a second wardrobe to create his and her dressing rooms off the main bedroom.”
Inside, the apartment features a chic interior with a raft of luxe finishes befitting a true entertainer’s lifestyle.
From herringbone floors to a state-of-the art kitchen complete with butler’s pantry, no expense has been spared in the property’s interior design.
“We wanted to create a glamorous New York feel and when you walk in, it feels spectacular,” Ms Barclay said.
Floor to ceiling glass sliding doors connect the lounge and dining areas to a large, covered balcony which takes in the full vista of the river and city.
“We’ve spent a lot of time on that balcony,” Ms Barclay said.
“It’s a great space to enjoy a glass of wine, wind down and just chat about the day.”
Located two floors above street level but high above the river, the apartment is out of view of passers-by yet offers an idyllic vantage point.
Meanwhile, the Argyle complex has an array of amenities for residents’ use.
“The facilities are fantastic,” Ms Barclay said.
“There’s a gymnasium, steam room, a sauna, a 25m lap pool with jacuzzi and full security, along with a building manager on-site.”
Located at the end of a cul-de-sac, the apartment complex overlooks the River Walk and is just a short stroll from the Howard Street Wharves and Merthyr Village, while New Farm Park and Fortitude Valley are also within easy reach.
With its prime location and entertainer’s lifestyle, Ms Barclay said the home was ideal for those looking to embrace luxury low-maintenance living in the heart of one of Brisbane’s most sought-after suburbs.
“It feels like a house, not an apartment,” she said.
While the Barclays have loved every aspect of living in their New York style apartment in Brisbane, Ms Barclay noted circumstances now dictated the couple spend more time on the Gold Coast.
“We’re genuinely sad to be going and we would stay if we could,” she said.
“We’ve absolutely loved it here as it’s such an easy and fabulous apartment to live in.”
Expressions of interest for 9/49 Maxwell St, New Farm, close on June 12.
