The women’s Central Queensland Hockey League took over Kalka Shades on the weekend with three matches taking place.
In the biggest win of the afternoon, the Meteors Hockey Club scored a strong win over the Frenchville Rovers.
Overcoming a tough loss last time out, the Meteors took it to Frenchville and finished 4-0 victors.
Tia Crosisca, Ainsleigh Holmes, Zarah Nash and Amanda Walz were the difference makers, all scoring a goal each, as goalkeeper Kim Green and her defence kept a clean sheet.
The Gladstone Souths then finished level with Park Avenue on the same day.
P.A and Souths were evenly matched as the contest would wind up ending in a 2-2 draw.
Souths’ goals, which came through Megan Groves and Bree Bunyan, were cancelled out by the Parkies’ Charlie Vidler and Samantha Barsby.
And in the final match of the round the Southern Suburbs dismantled the Wanderers in a 5-1 drubbing.
The women’s teams will now have the week off with the representative under-18s state championship taking over.
The men, who had their under-18s championship played prior to the weekend, had the weekend off but will return to local competition this Saturday.
Both matches will feature a Gladstone region team with the Meteors hosting Park Avenue in a major clash.
The Meteors are hanging in third place while the Park Avenue squad currently sit in second spot.
With P.A already two wins ahead of the Meteors, the Gladstone side will need a win to begin their chase of their opponents and the league-leading Wanderers.
And in the second match the Sparks will take on the Southern Suburbs.
The Sparks are currently sitting at the base of the CQHL men table but are only one win behind the Southern Suburbs who are placed in fourth.
A win could be the catalyst that the Sparks need to get their season back on track while a loss could be devastating for their hopes of finishing without the wooden spoon.
