MALIBU, Calif. – Two members of the Pepperdine women’s golf team earned All-American honors today, as Lion Higo garnered second team acclaim and Jeneath Wong received an honorable mention nod from the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA).
The duo helped Pepperdine reach the national quarterfinals last week at Grayhawk Golf Club, reaching match play for the first time in program history (as the match play format started in 2015). The team finished the season ranked #12 by Golfstat and #16 by Golfweek. The Waves won a single-season program-best six tournaments this season, including a share of the NCAA San Antonio Regional title and sole ownership of the West Coast Conference crown.
The Waves have had 19 players earn 32 All-American honors in program history. Higo’s and Wong’s are the first since the 2020 season and the first in both their collegiate careers.
Higo (Gold Coast, Australia) also was named West Coast Conference Player of the Year and All-WCC first team honors this season. In the national player rankings, she is ranked #20 by Golfstat and #27 by Golfweek. She had arguably one of the best seasons in Pepperdine program history, leading the single-season record books with a 71.35 scoring average this season, surpassing the record previously set by Grace Na with a 71.73 scoring average in the 2013-14 season. She leads the record books with 18 below par rounds and is tied for first with 11 top-20 finishes in a single season. Higo won two tournaments this season, the Golfweek Red Sky in the fall and the Silicon Valley Showcase in the Spring, while finishing second at the WCC Championships and the Golf Iconic.
Wong (Melbourne, Australia) joined the Waves in January and immediately started making an impact. Nationally, she is ranked #33 by Golfweek, #48 by Golfstat and #53 by USGA. She also earned a spot on the All-WCC first team this season. Wong impressed with a 72.72 scoring average to start her career, which broke the all-time single-season freshman record which has stood since the 2009-10 season when Danielle Kang posted a 73.22. It also ranks seventh the all-time Pepperdine single-season record books, freshman campaign aside. She tied for fourth in the freshman record books with four top-10 finishes and six top-20 finishes, while tying for fifth with six below-par rounds.
