WHAT WE’RE LOOKING AT
- Brisbane have won the last four in a row against Adelaide, including at Adelaide Oval last year and seven straight coming into the game.
- Adelaide have lost three of its last four.
- The last six teams that played the Western Bulldogs the week prior haven’t covered the line the next round.
THE MATCH-UP
Adelaide host Brisbane at the Adelaide Oval fresh off a tough loss to the Western Bulldogs in Ballarat, while the flaming hot Lions took care of Gold Coast to make it seven straight wins.
Brisbane defeated the Crows in round 9 at this venue last year and Chris Fagan’s men currently look like a well-oiled machine: third in the AFL for points per game at 100.3 while sitting fifth defensively in only conceding 77.2 a contest.
Adelaide are 3-2 at home to date this season but struggling with consistency: one week beating St Kilda, the next struggling against the Dogs.
The Crows maturing offence has proven formidable at times, currently at the sixth in the comp with 88.2 per outing while the defence is 9th at 82.1.
With both teams possessing excellent offences, it’s no surprise that the Crows are 7-3 and Lions 6-4 when it comes to their games going over the total points line.

AS THE CROWS FLY
Adelaide’s emergence from the doldrums of last season has been on the back of its playing group mix of veterans and young talent hitting their stride. Captain Jordan Dawson has proven an able leader and is playing the best football of his career, having gone for 30+ disposals in his last three games at Adelaide Oval.
Similarly, Rory Laird has been at his ball-gathering best, averaging over 28 touches a game and has gone for 33+ in his last three against the Lions.
The forward line has also benefited greatly from the emergence of Darcy Fogarty and the addition of Izak Rankine, but it’s been big Taylor ‘Tex’ Walker who’s been firing, booting 3+ majors in five of his last six games before a rest last week.

LIONS CONTINUE TO ROAR?
Brisbane have been indomitable in the past two months, winning seven on the trot and covering the line in each. Young weapons like Will Ashcroft and Bailey Humphreys have fit in perfectly next to veterans Lachie Neale, Hugh McCluggage and new addition Josh Dunkley meaning the Lions forwards get primo delivery.
Dunkley has been terrific while averaging over 25 disposals a game, while Neale is going at over 28 touches per outing and has also gone for 31+ in his last four straight against the Crows.
McCluggage is the surprise packet over the past few, going for 26+ in three straight.
Former Crow Charlie Cameron has been crushing it in season 2023, having kicked 4+ goals in the last three away games Brisbane has played. He’s also kicked 12 goal in four games against his old club.
Big Joe Daniher has 10 goals over the past two weeks and has ripped off 3+ in three of his last four games.
FIRST GOAL KICKER
Izak Rankine has fit in perfectly with this Crows team this year, giving them an extra boost of speed in the forward line and has kicked the first goal of a game twice already this year.
THE PICK
Brisbane’s form has been amazing, but the tricky part with the Lions is how they play away from Fortress Gabba: 3-2 this year.
The Lions are 3-2 at Adelaide Oval in the past five seasons and have won four straight against the Crows.
The Crows are 4-1 against the line at home, however, and if they can get out to a fast start at home on Sunday evening, we’ve seen them beat St Kilda and play Collingwood right to the wire.
