It’s been another Premier League season full of skills, thrills, spills, drama, controversy, joy and despair. Through the ups and downs – or just ups or downs depending on who you support – which player has stood out as the top performer for your side?
Our fan writers have picked four candidates for their club below and explained why they’ve selected them – now all you have to do is make your choice.
You have until 12:00 BST on Wednesday, 31 May to decide. So, get voting…
Arsenal
Bukayo Saka
Saka has had a fantastic season at club and international level. He plays a pivotal role for us at Arsenal and his contribution has played a key role in us winning games this season. We get our best performances when the England forward is at his best.
Gabriel Martinelli
Martinelli has had a fantastic season. He has been posing a massive threat for us down the left-hand side with his great dribbling ability and the way that he confidently runs at opposition players. Martinelli is also our leading goalscorer, alongside Martin Odegaard.
Martin Odegaard
Our captain has lived up to the role fantastically. His movement and creativity is magical and he reads the game well. Odegaard has shown us this season that his feet do the talking. He won December’s Premier League Player of the Month award and then was named Premier League Player of the Year at the London Football Awards.
Ben White
White has adapted to his right-back role so well that I often forget he was initially a centre-back. He links up extremely well with Saka and is great on the overlap. White progresses play forward and also defends well. He has produced consistently excellent performances this season.
Aston Villa
Tyrone Mings
After being tripped of the captaincy and dropped at the start of the season, Mings knuckled down and became a consistent performer under Steven Gerrard – but has elevated to another level under Unai Emery. A colossus on the pitch, Mings has played a huge part in Villa’s improvement.
Douglas Luiz
Another player who was initially dropped by Gerrard, but Dougie has grown this season to be a real talisman in midfield. Whether it’s in a deeper or more advanced role, Luiz controls matches and has added goals and assists to his game, making him a really top midfielder.
Ashley Young
A true inspiration. Still playing at the top level aged 38, Young has been one of our most consistent performers this season. Not only great on the pitch, but also a fantastic presence in the dressing room.
Ollie Watkins
Another player who has really benefited from Emery taking over. Watkins has simplified his game – he now doesn’t chase across the backline – and has reaped the rewards. A run of 11 goals in 12 games was just incredible.
Bournemouth
Philip Billing
Billing has been colossal for us this season. He’s now one of Gary O’Neil’s first names on the teamsheet, our top goalscorer from midfield and a consistent performer throughout. We’ll do well to keep hold of him, as I’m sure there will be plenty of suitors for the Danish maestro.
Neto
After a poor start to the season, we gave Neto the nod as our number one and it worked wonders. He’s a top goalkeeper and his experience and leadership was pivotal in our change of fortunes. It wasn’t long before Neto was named the new club captain, which says it all.
Jefferson Lerma
With Jeff out of contract at the end of the season, he may well have played his last games for the club, but as always, he was consistently flawless. Adding goals to his game has been a pleasant surprise, but ultimately he’s been the glue to our team all season.
Marcus Tavernier
Despite plenty of time on the sidelines because of injury, there’s no doubting how big Tav’s contribution has been for Bournemouth this season. The Cherries have always looked a better side with him in it, with his explosive pace and knack for a big goal always being so crucial.
Brentford
Ivan Toney
Ivan is the Premier League’s third-top scorer with 20 goals – a hugely impressive total, especially given he played in League One three seasons ago. He contributes all over the pitch, particularly defending set-pieces, deservedly won his first England cap in March, and will be missed by Brentford during his ban.
Ben Mee
Ben could be the best free transfer in history! Signed, we thought, as cover for injuries, he quickly disproved that with some superb defensive displays and has only missed one Premier League game. Comfortable in a two or three at the back, the timing of his tackles is particularly impressive.
David Raya
David has been one of the Premier League’s best keepers this season, making more saves than anyone else (152). He has also kept 11 clean sheets, is ever-present and often starts rapid Brentford attacks. With a year left on his contract, Thomas Frank has admitted the Spaniard could be sold this summer.
Mathias Jensen
Mathias stepped up following Christian Eriksen’s departure to become Brentford’s main attacking midfielder. He is this season’s only outfield ever-present, has improved his consistency and has a brilliant eye for a pass, while he has contributed six assists and five goals. His long throws are also a useful attacking weapon.
Brighton & Hove Albion
Jason Steele
Steele has always been in the background and reserve goalkeeper behind Robert Sanchez, playing mainly in cup games to give the number one a rest. But since there has been a swap – wow, what an amazing player. Yes, he’s made mistakes, but so did Sanchez. He has made some brilliant saves and deserves to be nominated.
Julio Enciso
Enciso is a little dynamo, causing the opposition confusion and running rings around them. Every now and then he finds the back of the net, but it’s pure class from him every game. He puts so, so much into any match and he’s not afraid to tackle bigger players! I have grown to like him more and more each game, and he seems to get better and better every time he’s on the pitch.
Alexis Mac Allister
I had to add him to this list – our very own World Cup winner. I’m sure over the summer there will be interest for him in the transfer market. The club, no doubt, have put a huge price on his head. He is an amazing player and can be found all over midfield as well as further forward. He can dominate the top of the box and catch the defence off guard.
Moises Caicedo
What a brilliant midfielder he has become. It’s a pleasure to watch him play again and again. He just seems to be in the right place at the right time! Even the opposition find him difficult to deal with – he can, and will, be all over a player, eager to win the ball back and punch it forward towards the box.
Chelsea
Ben Chilwell
In a disappointing season, only a handful of Blues stood out as candidates on the men’s side of the club. Players like Chilwell, however, emerged above some of the rest. Chilwell always put in a shift, contributed at both ends of the field, and did so having come back from serious injury just one season ago.
Kepa Arrizabalaga
One bright spot this season was a constantly under-pressure defence actually living up to its side of the footballing bargain. Goals were still being conceded, except for a spell in the autumn when Kepa played out of his mind, keeping clean sheets all on his own with a series of breathtaking, world-class saves.
Enzo Fernandez
January’s transfer window splurge on new signings somehow made things worse for the team, with the notable exception of Fernandez. The Argentina World Cup winner has looked every bit a £100m player with world-class potential – quick on the ball, strong in the tackle and with an easy eye for a pass.
Thiago Silva
Silva was one man who played with passion, toughness and an unmistakable swagger in Chelsea blue. The ageless Brazilian wonder put his body on the line to fight for the team time and time again.
Crystal Palace
Marc Guehi
The commanding defender has been a mainstay of the Palace side with several excellent displays. There will be plenty of suitors this summer as a result, and Palace will struggle to retain his services. It says everything that he has been handed the captain’s armband a number of times during the campaign.
Cheick Doucoure
Considering it is his first season in English football, the combative midfielder has settled in well – and for much of the season has been THE midfield at the club. He did rack up the yellow cards at one point, but adapted his game well to improve that side of it.
Joachim Andersen
As well as Guehi has played this season, his partnership with Andersen has been key. It is a joy to witness how the Denmark international turns defence into attack with one great pass, or switching play with the greatest of ease.
Michael Olise
This guy is the real deal. He may not smile much, but it says everything about his contribution to the team when he has 10 assists to his name with one game left to play – the most in the Premier League by a Palace player.
Everton
Seamus Coleman
The last of the ‘old guard’, Seamus epitomises everything we want in an Everton player. Even if you lose a game, just show fight, heart and determination and Everton fans will back you with everything they have. Our captain has been a wonder this season.
Jordan Pickford
Jordan has shown all the grit and determination he did last season to try to drag us out of the relegation fight, pulling off some stunning saves in the process. There are so many game-changing moments he has stopped happening. England’s number one, without doubt.
Dwight McNeil
Dwight has been a revelation under Sean Dyche and is now Everton’s top goalscorer. His performances against Brighton home and away are incomparable. He has confidence and has breathed new life into the attack. He has been in magnificent form for the latter part of the season.
James Tarkowski
James has appeared in every game this season and become a key part of the defence. He hasn’t been afraid to call out weak performances, spurring his team-mates on, and is a commanding voice within the squad.
Fulham
Bernd Leno
It seems incredible that Fulham only paid an initial £3m for the German goalkeeper, whose excellence won the Whites vital points on its own. After a single season, Leno is already as important to this Fulham side as Edwin van der Sar and Mark Schwarzer were to theirs.
Kenny Tete
The Netherlands international has found both fitness and fantastic consistency this term to become one of the league’s leading right-backs. His delivery from wide areas is a genuine weapon and he carries out everything Marco Silva expects from a full-back. A stellar season.
Tim Ream
The USA stalwart’s redemption season is one of the most underappreciated stories of the year. Written off as past it, Ream not only became the leading light in a successful Premier League defence, but went to his first World Cup at 35, winning new admirers like Pep Guardiola along the way.
Joao Palhinha
The signing of the season bar none. We wonder at how Fulham prised Palhinha away from Sporting Lisbon for £18m after watching his tenacious tackling and reading of the game, while also loving his appreciation of the reworking of ‘Tequila’ in his honour. A Craven Cottage cult hero already.
Leeds United
Luis Sinisterra
Luis has looked impressive this season and bagged five vital goals for us along the way. It’s a real shame he has been struck with injury, as it would have been an amazing opportunity for him to shine further and show what he can do.
Jack Harrison
After Leeds pulled the plug on his move to Leicester City in the January transfer window, he came back to us, cracked on and has worked hard since. It seems like he genuinely cares about us staying up. If only he had a quality team around him so that he could perform at his best level.
Tyler Adams
The fact that fans all over the country are hoping to snap up Tyler for their club if we go down says it all. We have massively missed him in the squad since his hamstring injury. If he was fit then we wouldn’t have been in a relegation battle.
Rodrigo
Rodrigo has scored 13 goals this season despite missing plenty of games because of injury injury, and those goals have been important. He can hold his head up high and know that we are grateful for him fighting for the badge. Rodrigo will get snapped up in no time if we do get relegated.
Leicester City
James Maddison
While his time looks to be complete at Leicester as he moves on to bigger prospects, he has still been our standout player of the season. In 28 matches, he has 10 goals and six assists, which is very good record considering he is a central attacking midfield player in an overall poor Foxes side.
Harvey Barnes
Another player who looks like he has one foot out of the door, but again his stats back up a good season. Within 32 matches (before Sunday), he has got 12 goals which is, for most wingers in the Premier League, considered a good season, but unfortunately for Leicester, means a big club might come knocking.
Kelechi Iheanacho
This one might come as a surprise, but in a poor campaign, Kel always came on or started and gave his absolute best. In 26 games (again, before Sunday), he got five goals and four assists, but he was always our most dangerous striker while Patson Daka and Jamie Vardy had zero confidence or form.
Nampalys Mendy
Our most underrated player who, for some reason, barely plays! He has made 17 appearances this season – we’ve won seven, lost eight and drawn three, and he has a 69% tackle success rate. In a season where we have only won eight games, he featured in seven of them.
Liverpool
Alisson
It’s unsettling for Liverpool fans to think where they’d be this season without this man in goal. Recently marking a century of clean sheets, Alisson’s standards have rarely faltered. Left more exposed than ever before, the keeper proved he is up for the job – and that’s without mentioning his passing capabilities and leadership qualities.
Mohamed Salah
Breaking records for fun, this season Salah moved himself into fifth on the list of Liverpool’s all-time top goalscorers. His contribution has remained consistent, even when his supply hasn’t. Six years in, his impact doesn’t seem like it will be slowing down any time soon.
Trent Alexander-Arnold
Like most of the team, Alexander-Arnold’s season was defined by highs and lows. After a poor start, his impact has been greater than any other player on the pitch since his move into midfield. Assisting for fun, he has helped the team turn it around.
Stefan Bajcetic
Talk about a breakthrough! Before his season-ending injury, Bajcetic was the shining light during a difficult spell in form. The 18-year-old proved he is fearless, consistent, energetic and extremely talented. His rapid rise made him one of the first names on Jurgen Klopp’s teamsheet, and his future is certainly looking bright.
Manchester City
Erling Haaland
How could you even consider a list without mentioning Haaland? What a signing he has been. The talk and attention heading into the season was all about how Manchester City would adapt to playing with a genuine striker again. I think it’s safe to say all questions have been emphatically answered.
Nathan Ake
An absolute revelation this season, Ake has played himself into an almost undroppable position. It took him a while to settle into the way Guardiola wants his teams to play, but his awareness and incredible one-on-one defending have given City a new lease of life at the back.
John Stones
“Rolls-Royce” is a term that gets used to describe players far too often these days, but if ever there was one to sum this up it is Stones. His tactical nous is unmatched and he proved it again this season by making the move into a hybrid central midfield role which led to the upturn in City’s season. An immense player and personality. World class.
Rodri
This man epitomises everything right at the football club. Humble, selfless, astute and, above all else, incredibly talented. He is the glue that holds it all together and, in sacrificing himself for the cause, allows others to flourish. I never thought I would see anything close to Sergio Busquets in my lifetime – but Rodri is now on that level.
Manchester United
Marcus Rashford
Manchester United’s biggest problem this season has been scoring goals. It goes without saying that we wouldn’t be in the position we are now if it wasn’t for Rashford. Some questioned whether he had a future at the club last season, but those doubts have vanished with the Wythenshawe lad on 29 goals for the campaign.
Casemiro
Manchester United have been crying out for a top quality defensive midfielder for years. The Brazilian hasn’t just provided the team with security in that area, but he possesses the ability to unlock teams from deep positions and has scored a number of important goals. A midfield general.
Lisandro Martinez
Martinez quickly became a fans’ favourite at Manchester United. As the season went on, the Argentine made a mockery of everyone who said he was too small to make it as a centre-back in the Premier League. Licha won over fans with his aggression and his incredible range of passing.
Luke Shaw
Shaw’s solid performances throughout the season make him a contender for best left-back in the Premier League. And when he was called upon at centre-back, the England international showed why he is one of Erik ten Hag’s most trusted lieutenants. His most consistent season yet.
Newcastle United
Joelinton
The Brazilian battering ram has been outstanding in Newcastle’s rise this season. He sets the tone with his work-rate and very few can handle his pace and power. Crucially, his versatility has been key whether he’s in a midfield three or on the left wing, and he is now adding goals to his game. Brazil will soon be calling and he only cost £40m!
Kieran Trippier
The skipper led by example. His calmness under pressure has helped guide this inexperienced team through difficult periods this season, and he is also crucial to everything good we do on the pitch. Corners, free-kicks, chances created – stats better than most midfielders and attackers. My captain!
Callum Wilson
Perhaps a surprise choice if this was done before April, but his late form has been the catalyst in our resurgence to cement a top-four place. Whether rotated off the bench or starting, he’s hitting the net with important goals, and has 18 for the season going into the final game. After a quiet start to 2023, Wilson is BACK!
Sven Botman
The young Netherlands defender is everything I expected him to be and more. Calmness personified with the ball at his feet, but added steel in our backline as well. Strong as an ox, with a no-nonsense mentality when defending. At 23, he will only get better. What a debut season!
Nottingham Forest
Serge Aurier
The experience that he has brought to the dressing room has been invaluable, especially with so many new signings. A solid full-back who is great in the air, Aurier’s 24 starts show he has not just been there to make up the numbers.
Felipe
Coming in from Atletico Madrid at the end of January, he is another experienced player and has ended up a cult hero with his man bun. His 16 appearances really made a difference to the end of Forest’s season and he was instrumental in us avoiding relegation.
Morgan Gibbs-White
Forest paid a club record fee for Gibbs-White. At the time it was scoffed at, but his performances in recent weeks have reaffirmed what a great signing he was for us. His pace, drive and boundless energy, along with his creativity, put him right up there with our standout performers.
Brennan Johnson
One of our own. He has 10 goals and three assists in 43 appearances (before Sunday) in his debut top-flight campaign – and he’s not yet 22 years old. Two years ago he was playing for Lincoln City, now he has played a full season in the Premier League and been to a World Cup with Wales. What an achievement!
Southampton
James Ward-Prowse
Ever ready, ever present and always leading by example in what appears to be his final season at Southampton – a club he’s represented since he was eight years old. This campaign, he leads the team in goals and assists and has moved to within just one of the Premier League free-kick record.
Romeo Lavia
Southampton’s transfer policy this season has been in question. Too young and inexperienced at the top level, but the exception to the rule has been Lavia’s debut campaign. The teenager’s play is easy on the eye and has attracted plenty of attention. His efforts have seen him rewarded with his first call-up to the already talented Belgium squad.
Carlos Alcaraz
Despite only joining Saints in the January window, Alcaraz has become a fan favourite fast. With only 19 games under his belt, the Argentine midfielder has already netted four times (joint most of any Premier League player under the age of 21) and leads the team with the best minutes-per-goal ratio.
Romain Perraud
Perraud established himself as the first-choice left-back and rarely has a bad game, despite the amount of goals we have shipped. For a team that have struggled at both ends of the field, Perraud has chipped in with assists (ranked third in the side) and went through a purple patch in front of goal, scoring four in a campaign devoid of goals.
Tottenham Hotspur
Harry Kane
Kane is the one man who has continued to deliver despite the form of those around him. Where would Spurs be without their talisman? The world-class forward has hit 28 goals in the league and without the arrival of Erling Haaland would comfortably be the Golden Boot winner (again). Kane also became Spurs’ all-time leading goalscorer this season, overtaking Jimmy Greaves.
Rodrigo Bentancur
The classy Uruguay midfielder has become an instrumental member of the side. The season-ending injury he suffered in February goes a long way to explaining Spurs’ stuttering second half of the season. Five league goals and two assists in just 18 Premier League appearances for the holding midfielder. ‘Lolo’ was on his way to an inclusion in the PFA Team of the Season before his injury.
Fraser Forster
Joining last summer on a free transfer from Southampton, the 6ft 7in goalkeeper was one of the most under-the-radar signings, but the 35-year-old has proved invaluable, with Hugo Lloris suffering injuries and a dramatic loss of form. Quite simply, Spurs have looked a better side with Forster in goal. He was rewarded for his fine form with a recall to the England squad, despite winning the last of his six England caps seven years ago.
Emerson Royal
If there were a most improved player award at Spurs, Emerson would be the winner. After a torrid debut season in English football – being signed as a right-back for Nuno Espirito Santo and then played as a right-wing-back for Antonio Conte – the Brazil international has turned the corner and plays with heart and commitment. He’s still capable of the odd dodgy moment, but he’s found a level of consistency to his game and become a cult hero among supporters.
West Ham United
Declan Rice
We’ve come to expect consistently world-class performances from Rice over the years, which is why he probably hasn’t been hailed as often as he would normally be. However, without his ever-presence and ongoing development as one of the world’s best midfielders, we wouldn’t be in a European final.
Said Benrahma
Often a polarising figure among the fanbase, Benrahma’s performances this season have been far more consistent and effective than in recent years. With 11 goals and five assists, the Algerian’s impact in attack this term speaks for itself, with some very important contributions throughout.
Lucas Paqueta
It took the Brazilian some time to truly announce himself in east London but, over the past few months, we’ve really started to see why the club paid so much for him last summer. Paqueta’s goals, assists and outrageous flair have been a major factor behind our surge in form during the second half of the campaign.
Jarrod Bowen
He hasn’t been as productive in front of goal this season, but Bowen still has 12 goals and eight assists, and has delivered at crucial stages throughout the campaign. He set himself a high bar in 2021-22 and, while he hasn’t quite reached those levels again, he’s still been a vital player this term.
Wolverhampton Wanderers
Craig Dawson
Craig’s arrival in January brought much-needed experience and leadership to steady a rudderless ship. The defender’s calming influence on the team has helped steer us away from the drop zone. He has even chipped in with one of those elusive Wolves goals.
Ruben Neves
Captain Fantastic! Mr Consistent! Legend! When times were tough, Ruben got stuck in and helped dig this team out of the mire. He gives his heart and soul every time he pulls on the old gold shirt. The six years of Ruben at Molineux have been amazing!
Mario Lemina
Midfielder Mario Lemina’s contribution can’t be overstated. He mops up so many problems and allows the team to push forward in the knowledge he will provide cover for the defence. He never goes missing and has been a key player in Wolves’ improvement under Julen Lopetegui.
Toti
Traditionally a centre-back, Toti has adapted to the left-back role under Lopetegui and he hasn’t put a foot wrong. He has been athletic, strong and integral to the improved defensive performance. Great at set-pieces in both boxes, this has been an impressive breakthrough season.
