The 54-year-old was a beloved member of the Nowra Bomaderry Jets Rugby League Football Club, who paid tribute to his dedication to the local club on social media.
“Rod has been a part of the Jets family for over 10 years,” the club wrote on Facebook.
“He was the welcome at the gate, the guy who always put his hand up to help and always loved to have a chat or tell you about how good his beloved Sharks or Jets were going.
“It didn’t matter how we went on the field, he was our number one supporter.”
His daughter also paid tribute online, writing that she “lost the man that taught me how to become a brave mother”.
“Why did this have to happen, this world is so cruel,” she wrote.
A fundraiser has been set up to help Strybis’ family with funeral costs.
Organiser Kevin Swain said the 54-year-old had a “kind heart” and “respect for everyone”.
“Rodney was a much loved person in the community,” he wrote.
“He was a harmless man, he wouldn’t hurt anyone.”
Over $1000 has been raised so far.
