Leopold’s Jess Davey shares how she became a contestant on the next series of a popular travel TV show while raising money for a worthy cause.
On board P&O’s Pacific Adventure – the family holiday where everyone is covered
But it wasn’t just the TV show that grabbed her attention, it was the opportunity to raise money for a charity of her choice that sealed the deal.
Jess, who lives in Leopold, has been selected to star on Adventure All Stars, a TV show that is broadcast in Australia and 25 countries globally.
It features real life cast members undertaking an unforgettable week-long journey to a secret location.
Before filming the adventure TV show contestants raise money and awareness for a charitable cause.
“I’m proud to be fundraising for the KIDS Foundation. The money I raise will help the KIDS Foundation run camps in bushfire affected areas for young people impacted by life-changing burns, harm, injury and trauma,” Jess explains.
“The goal is to raise $10,000 in 10 months and as an incentive and reward for doing that you get to go on an all expenses paid holiday.”
Adventure All Stars is produced by Charity TV Global and the most recent series generated $1.2 million, with the amount fundraised since inception now more than $9 million.
The platform is one of the biggest contributors to philanthropy of any TV show in the world.
Jess has been cast in season four and believes her super quick and eager responses to their emails secured her place.
And she says that while the travel adventure sounds amazing, it was the opportunity to raise money for a worthy cause that really appealed to her.
“I feel like I haven’t given back to the community as much as I wanted to so this is giving me a way,” Jess beams.
The 24-year-old, who went to Saint Ignatius College and now works in social media marketing, has always been interested in the film and television industry and loves being in front of the camera.
“I say my life is boring but it really isn’t. I work from home for a business based in Sydney and I work creatively and produce low-key local shows and do some DJ work at Club Italia,” she says.
“In my free time I like being creative.
“I grew up with Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez on Disney and watching them rise up singing, acting and dancing, I’ve looked up to them.”
Jess adds she likes to live with a bit of chaos in her life and likes to be busy.
Along with her previous commitments, Jess is now organising fundraising events to raise money for the KIDS Foundation for Adventure All Stars.
She is hoping to hold a trivia night and silent auction.
As well as fundraising with the general public, Jess is also looking for commercial support from businesses that she can then promote while filming the show.
“It all sounds too good to be true,” Jess smiles.
“And it’s nice to know the money is going to something directly.”
Jess says she has been searching for a purpose in life and figuring out how she can give back to others.
This opportunity blew her away.
“The prize to me is the charity, yeah the holiday will be amazing, but knowing I was able to give back and support a charity is better than anything else,” she says.
Jess has watched past episodes of Adventure All Stars to get an idea of what she is in for when she films the show either later this year or early next year.
“Some of the things they do are awesome and some look scary,” she laughs.
“They’ve been to Fraser Island and went on dune buggies, horseback riding, flying in a helicopter with no doors, skydiving and swimming with sharks.
“They really hone in on the local community.”
Jess says she loves adventure and is looking forward to travelling more in the future.
And while she doesn’t know where the show will be filmed, she is hoping for either the Northern Territory or far north Queensland.
Jess says she will have a yes attitude to anything they do.
“I’ll push myself and I’m saying yes to everything I can this year,” she smiles.
